Questions Corner: Your Questions Answered!

Did you see the Career Center tabling in Worner Campus Center on Halloween? We asked you to share questions you were afraid to ask the Career Center so we can answer them in our newsletter.
This week’s question is: Where do I get help with my resume and how do I write one?
Your resume is your first impression for a prospective employer. It is a professional and legal document that demonstrates your qualifications for a position and its goal is to get you an interview. Employers typically spend less than 30 seconds reviewing your resume so it is crucial that it is well-organized, concise, and tailored to the role you are applying for.

To begin writing your resume you can utilize the Resume Formatting Template and the Resume Guide. You can have a variety of sections on your resume such as Education, Work, Volunteer, Leadership, Skills, Certifications, and Extracurriculars. The resume bullet points are very important! Your resume bullet points are more than a list of tasks and responsibilities. They are your opportunity to showcase your accomplishments, impacts, and skills! Building your resume bullets can be easier by following a framework: Action Verb + Task/Project + Metric, Result, or Additional Information.

For more resources on resumes, you can check out our website. If you would like help with creating your resume you can schedule a meeting with a Career Consultant or stop by our drop-in hours Monday-Thursday 1 to 4 pm.
