Office of Sustainability

Welcome to the New Year

We are thrilled to continue our sustainability journey with you as we begin the new academic year. This year, we are eager to dive back into impactful programs like the CC Exchange, E-Waste Recycling, Campus Compost, and Sense of Place. We also look forward to collaborating with academic classes, strengthening both on- and off-campus partnerships, and advancing our mission to make our campus a model for sustainability.

Starting next block the Office of Sustainability will combine our newsletter with the Experiential Education at CC offices, including Global Education & Field Study, the CCE, and the Career Center. This joint newsletter will provide and communicate a wide range of opportunities for students to engage at CC. For more information about our office initiatives and ways to get involved, be sure to check out the newsletter in Block 2.

Introducing Our Student Team

We are thrilled to welcome our student team for the academic year! Just like sustainability, our team is constantly evolving. This year, we have 11 students working across five focus areas: Waste, Emissions, CC Exchange, STARS, and Administrative Support. We’re excited about the ongoing work and the fresh perspectives our new members bring.

Funding For Your Ideas

Do you have a sustainability idea for a project, event, or initiative on campus?  The EcoFund is here to support your efforts and help bring your vision to life. By fostering campus sustainability, we uphold CC’s core value of “nurturing a sense of place and an ethic of environmental sustainability,” while also aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The EcoFund is open to all CC students, staff, and faculty. It provides financial support for projects, events, or research that advance one or more SDGs and align with campus sustainability initiatives. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with up to $3,000 available per application.

Alternative Transportation Options

Don’t have a car on campus or want to explore Colorado Springs differently? Great news—there are several options for getting around town! Save money on ride shares, and partake in slow transportation to meet your transportation needs this year.

PikeRide: Students, Staff, and Faculty
  • Take a 30-minute ride on one of the e-assist PikeRide bikes. With six hubs across campus and many more throughout Colorado Springs, it’s easy to get around conveniently. Sign up using your CC email.

The ZEB: Students, Staff, and Faculty
  • Planning to go to Downtown Colorado Springs, but don’t want to walk? Look no further than the ZEB, a free shuttle service that runs every 7-10 minutes along Tejon Street.

Outdoor Education: Students, Staff, and Faculty
  • E-bikes and “fat” bikes (mountain bikes) for low-cost rentals are available during Gear House hours. If you own a bicycle, the Bike & Ski Co-Op is available to support your equipment maintenance needs. The Co-op also has U-locks, bike tubes, and tires for sale.

Mountain Metro: Students
  • Want to go even farther off campus? The Mountain Metro Transit (MMT) system provides students with FREE, year-round rides to a variety of destinations all around Colorado Springs. Jump on with your CC ID! Want to visit Trader Joe’s or Costco? Take Bus #19, which runs every 30 minutes. Feeling adventurous? Take Bus #9 to the Downtown Terminal and connect to Bus #3, which will take you to the historic resort city of Manitou Springs! With so many routes to choose from, where will you start your MMT journey?
