An Evening with Valarie Kaur – From Darkness to Light: A Journey of Love, Healing, and Justice
|
Join visionary civil rights leader Valarie Kaur Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 7–9 p.m. in Celeste Theatre for an immersive experience of storytelling, music, song, ancestral wisdom, and community-building. This will be a space for soulful introspection, deep listening, and courageous action. You will leave with the tools needed to lead with love and courage in your daily life. Valarie and fellow artists will tell stories of how their ancestors survived seemingly apocalyptic times. Together, we will explore how each of us can walk the path of love, healing, and justice.
Special guests include celebrated Sikh women artists Jasvir Kaur Rababan and Nirinjan Kaur Khalsa, and renowned trumpeter and artist Sonny Singh performing from his new album Sage Warrior.
This event is sponsored by the Chaplain’s Office, Cultural Attractions Fund, Office of Institutional Equity & Belonging, The Butler Center, English Department, Journalism, Religion Department, Wellness Resource Center, and the Refuge at La Foret.

Save the Date for the Next Lecture in the Sondermann Presidential Symposium: Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr.
|
Please join us on Thursday, Oct. 3, 4-5:30 p.m. in Celeste Theatre to hear esteemed author and political commentator Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. present a picture of race and democracy that is colored by current events and framed by African American history. Bearing witness to the difficult truth in our country today, Dr. Glaude lays bare the tangled web of race, trauma, memory, and what we all must ask of ourselves to call forth a new America. Along the way, Glaude shares stories about the transformative power of imagination. “We must resist those voices who urge us to settle for the world as it is and call us to imagine a better world,” Glaude says.
This event is sponsored by CC’s Department of Political Science, and is the second event in the 2024 Sondermann Presidential Symposium: Democracy in This Moment. Thank you to the Fred A. Sondermann Memorial Fund, Marianne Lannon Lopat Memorial Lecture Fund, and McHugh Fund for their generous support of this event. For more information on Glaude and the rest of the Symposium, visit our webpage.
