Nominations for Livesay Award for Social Change are Open
|
Do you know a CC alum who has significantly impacted Colorado’s nonprofit sector?
The Colorado College Public Interest Fellowship Program invites you to nominate a CC graduate for the Livesay Award for Social Change.
The Livesay Award was created in honor of popular and well-respected Professor Emeritus of Sociology Jeff Livesay, who brought the Public Interest Fellowship Program to CC and has shepherded it through years of growth to become a signature program on campus. The Livesay Award is presented each year to an alum who is living out the mission, spirit, and goals of the PIFP in their life and career by contributing to systemic change, increasing the capacity of the nonprofit sector, and helping build a new generation of nonprofit leaders. Learn about past recipients.
If you know a CC grad who has made a significant career contribution to the nonprofit sector in Colorado over the years, please nominate them for the Livesay Award. Nominations must be submitted by April 1 each year. We invite anyone and everyone to submit a nomination by completing this form.

By Julia Fennell ’21
After spending her time at CC learning how to think critically and ask important questions, Audrey Dervarics ’19 is now pursuing a PhD in Global Health at Arizona State University (ASU), where she is conducting community-based research on chronic diseases and the built environment.
Dervarics originally planned to focus on forensic anthropology and bioarcheology, as she was fascinated by the stories stored in skeletons. However, after taking courses in almost every social science field offered at CC, she realized that she wanted to pursue the larger implications of how the body is impacted by the environment.

World Premiere of In Her Bones
|
Don’t miss the world premiere of In Her Bones, written by Jessica Kahkoska, running Feb. 13-Mar. 2 at the FAC. This play follows Mia, a UC Berkeley first-year student, who is stranded at a rural gas station in Southern Colorado during a snowstorm. As she passes the time with Moises, the store owner, an unexpected world of hidden family secrets, forgotten prayers, and long-buried history slowly emerges. This powerful play, inspired by a multi-year research process on crypto-Judaism in the San Luis Valley, examines the complicated legacy of faith, identity, and the passing of cultural traditions when written records are too dangerous to keep.
Tickets start at $27. CC faculty and staff get $30 tickets the day of the performance, and CC students get free tickets the day of the performance! Get your tickets today!

Artist Talk with Alisa Banks
|
Join book, fiber, and multimedia artist Alisa Banks on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. for a discussion of the artwork and inspirations in her show Alisa Banks: Unerased. Banks is a multimedia artist whose work explores the intersection of contemporary culture, her Louisiana Creole heritage, and the African diaspora. Using textiles, fibers, and plants to “root read” ancestral histories, she delves into the histories and stories of African diasporic communities, reclaiming narratives that have been erased over time while fostering pride and connectedness through traditional craft processes like embroidery and beading. The exhibition is curated by Jillian Sico, Printer of The Press at Colorado College. This artist talk is free with museum admission. RSVPs are requested.
