I’m writing to share a change to academic building access.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 23 (the second week of Block 6), academic buildings will move to card access only. What does this mean for you? You’ll simply need your Gold Card to scan into a card-access door, as exterior doors will remain locked.
The change will apply to all academic buildings across campus, including Cossitt Hall, Armstrong Hall, Palmer Hall, Barnes Science Center, Hybl Community Center, Olin Hall, Tutt Science Center, Cornerstone Arts Center, Packard Hall, and Honnen Arts. Residence halls, administrative buildings, and other facilities will continue operating under their current access protocols.
Why are we making this shift? In short, this is an operational step to ensure our academic spaces are clearly designated and managed as private college property. By moving to card access and clarifying property boundaries, we are putting in place a consistent approach to how our spaces are accessed while considering the comfort, focus, and safety of our community. Clear access practices reduce confusion, support those who work at our desks and entry points, and provide a predictable experience for campus community members and visitors as we move through the day.
