Time to Celebrate the Sesquicentennial!

150 Years of Colorado College

CC was founded 150 years ago. Therefore, this year is our sesquicentennial! Come learn more about how we plan to commemorate 150 years of Colorado College at this Work of the College event with Lesley Irvine, Vice President and Director or Athletics, and Mike Taber, Professor of Education.

Join us on Monday, April 22 at 2 p.m. in Gaylord Hall. Make sure to register in advance.
The Work of the College Series is a year-long program of events with four goals: (1) clarify organizational structures and decision-making processes; (2) offer campus constituencies the opportunity to dialogue with leadership about campus affairs; (3) increase decision-making transparency in hopes of building trust; and (4) build community.

The Work of the College Series consists of:

  • Community Conversations (dialogue about specific topics)
  • Roadshows (presentations and Q&As)
  • Board of Trustees Town Halls (informational updates)

Don’t Forget: Tomorrow Join Us for a Talk on the Six Black Catholics Being Considered for Canonization

TOMORROW! People of Action: Black Catholics on the Road to Sainthood

Join us tomorrow, April 8, from 4-6 p.m. in Gaylord Hall in Worner Campus Center as we welcome CC alum Andrew Prevot ’05, who will be speaking on the spiritualities of the six Black Catholics who are being considered for canonization.

This talk looks at what we know about Henriette Delille, Augustus Tolton, Thea Bowman, Mary Elizabeth Lange, Pierre Toussaint, and Julia Greeley, to situate them in their historical contexts and discuss similarities with earlier examples of a Christian vita activa.

The lecture is generously sponsored by the Paul Frederick Sheffer Memorial Fund for Roman Catholic Studies.

Celebrating Student-Athletes During Division III Week

This week is all about our Division III student-athletes.

I hope you enjoy learning more about these two CC tigers! Today’s Tigers are from our Women’s Lacrosse and Men’s Basketball teams. Read more about their team’s academic accomplishments in 2023:
Class Year: 2024
Sport: Lacrosse
Major: Economics
Favorite Class: Senior Thesis and my entire semester abroad
Top CC Academic Moment/Accomplishment: Having had the privilege to successfully finalize my senior thesis. I conducted comprehensive research on the relationship between cybersecurity expenditure and economic development. Submitting this thesis to graduate schools significantly bolstered my application and helped with getting accepted into those programs.
Special Talents/Skills: Sound imitation.
Hobbies: Snowboarding, travelling, and tennis.
Proudest Moment at CC: Successfully completing the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (R2R2R) hike in under 48 hours. My friends and I decided last minute to do a backpacking trip over Block Break, so we drove 11 hours from Colorado to Arizona. Despite my limited hiking experience (just 10 miles prior!), we hiked 23 miles each day. With only a 5-hour nap in between, we completed the hike. Afterwards we immediately went back to the car and made the 11-hour drive back to campus. This taught me the value of pushing myself past my comfort zone, even when being physically and mentally exhausted. (Please do not attempt to do this, as it can result in extreme injuries.)
Community Service Experience: Being on Student Council, the Lacrosse team, and serving as the Delta Mu DEI chair has granted me the opportunities to work with many groups on and off campus. I’ve worked with our team impact person by helping her sell cookies to CC students, I’ve planned and executed dinners catered to the BIPOC students on campus, which involved getting cuisines and performers from different cultures, and have participated in drives that help unhoused teenagers and young adults, in addition to TESSA which is an organization that advocates for the safety and protection for those who have or are currently experiencing assault and/or have been involved in human trafficking.

Sport: Basketball
Major: Economics
Top CC Academic moments: I took Non-Fiction Writing with Steven Hayward. In the class, we wrote a bunch of stories then edited each other’s stories. Editing day for my story was one of my most rewarding moments at CC. I got a lot of praise and great advice from Professor Hayward on how to expand the world I created. It inspired me to pursue a minor in Creative Writing.
Special Talents/Skills: I’m above average at chess, a good writer, and good at poker.
Hobbies: Basketball, spending time with friends, poker, chess, and cooking (sometimes).
Proudest moment at CC: My proudest moment would have to be scoring the last two buckets and the game winner against Trinity at home my sophomore year. It was a big moment for me because I was facing adversity going into that game. Also, my entire family came to that game and it was the first game for a couple of them. On top of that, we had never beaten Trinity and winning home games was a big focus for us. It all came together to be a very special moment for me.
Community Service Experience: I enjoy doing the freerice.com questions because it is so simple yet it helps people who really need it. All you do is answer multiple choice questions online but every correct answer is a grain of rice donated to someone in need. If everyone did it for 30 minutes a day the amount of food donated would be unbelievable.
