Community Engagement Opportunities This Fall

Dear Campus Community,

Do you want to engage with the local community more deeply?  Now is the time to commit to action.  This academic year, how will you co-create a just, equitable, sustainable, and connected world?

Below is a look ahead at opportunities to get engaged this fall, offered through the Collaborative for Community Engagement.

You can see a calendar and read more about specific opportunities on the CCE website, and explore roadmaps of CCE opportunities for students and faculty.  To connect with nonprofit organizations that partner with the college, peruse this list of CC High Impact Partners or our wider partner database.

Temporary Shift to Strongly Recommending Wearing Masks Indoors

Dear Campus Community,

We are excited to be back on campus for the start of the 2022-23 academic year. Students have been returning over the past few weeks, and the energy on campus is palpable.
As our students have returned to campus, we have seen an increase in positive cases of COVID-19. To limit the further spread of the virus, we will temporarily adjust our COVID-19 masking protocols to strongly recommend that all members of the community wear well-fitting masks whenever in indoor spaces (N95 or KN95 masks are the most effective).
Our campus masking recommendations will change dependent on the level of spread at CC and in Colorado Springs. The thresholds listed below have been established through our own campus modeling of COVID spread and in consultation with the El Paso County Health Department. Since mid-August, 35 individuals on our campus have tested positive for COVID-19, with 27 of those positive tests coming in the last week.
  • Masks will be optional when positive cases are below 25 new cases per week and the El Paso County community transmission level is low to medium.
  • Masks will be strongly recommended when our positive cases are between 25 and 50 new cases per week and the El Paso County community transmission level is low to medium.
  • Masks will be required when our positive cases are more than 50 new cases per week OR the El Paso County community transmission level is high.
Anyone who is experiencing COVID-like symptoms, no matter how mild, should stay home, contact their medical provider to determine appropriate testing and treatment, and wear a mask if they must interact with others, including those within their household. Those with symptoms who test negative for COVID should continue to mask and re-test after 24-48 hours, unless a medical provider has determined an alternative reason for the symptoms.
If you have more questions or would like more detailed information, please take a look at the COVID-19 information on our website.
Thank you for your continued collaboration as we work to create a safe and healthy environment for our community.
Sincerely,

Heather L. Horton, Ph.D.

Senior Director of Student Health and Wellbeing
