Unlocking CC’s Compensation Philosophy

Save the Date for the Work of the College Series Event on Staff Compensation

CC strives to provide the finest liberal arts education in the country to a diverse community of students. Achieving this mission requires an equally diverse group of highly qualified employees who are fairly compensated for their contributions to our community. Come learn more about staff compensation and the compensation philosophy with Ryan Simmons, Vice President of People and Workplace Culture.

This event, part of the Work of the College Series, will be held in South Hall Commons on April 19, at 2 p.m. Be sure to register for the event.

The Work of the College Series is a year-long program of events with four goals: (1) clarify organizational structures and decision-making processes; (2) offer campus constituencies the opportunity to dialogue with leadership about campus affairs; (3) increase decision-making transparency in hopes of building trust; and (4) build community.

The Work of the CollegSeries consists of:

  • Community Conversations (dialogue about specific topics)
  • Roadshows (presentations and Q&As)
  • Board of Trustees Town Halls (informational updates)

Campus Compact has selected CC to receive funding as part of the Newman Civic Fellowship Campus Innovation Cohort. This funding will improve the college’s mentorship process and experience for the Newman Civic Fellowship program, coordinated by the Collaborative for Community Engagement (CCE).

Campus Compact, a national collation of colleges and universities dedicated to pursuing the public purposes of higher education, partnered with the Lumina Foundation to create the Newman Civic Fellowship Campus Innovation Cohort. Campus Compact selected six teams across seven Campus Compact member institutions to receive funding to enhance the Newman Civic Fellowship program.

The grantees will lead individual work on each respective campus, where they will pursue strategic goals to improve access for historically underrepresented students, develop student professional development opportunities, and improve mentoring processes. The teams will participate as members of a nationwide cohort to collaborate on deepening student civic leadership development in higher education.

Help celebrate our 150th anniversary by sharing your CC story!

This time, we’re looking to the seasons for inspiration. Spring has arrived on campus. Will today bring warm, sunny shorts weather or a blizzard? Who knows! Maybe both! Share your favorite “Spring at CC” story with us »

Did you know…?

CC’s new Compensation Philosophy is one of the many great ideas to come from Project 2024. This year, the Project 2024 Steering Committee sought to make a living wage commitment part of CC’s compensation philosophy and an action group worked to revise this philosophy for the CC community.

The revised compensation philosophy can be found on the Human Resources compensation website. The website will be updated with actions taken to implement our philosophy and will provide metrics to measure the college’s progress.

Join us for the MacLean Symposium: Narrative Medicine.

Thursday, April 11 in Celeste Theatre from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
There are three sessions available: two keynote speakers and a panel. The keynote speakers’ books will be available for purchase and both speakers will be available to sign books. Light refreshments will be served in between sessions. Please note that parking for this event may be limited.
What is Narrative Medicine?
Narrative Medicine is a way of thinking about how medical care is shaped by our stories – not only the themes and content of these stories, but their structure, delivery, and influence. Basic questions like “who tells the story?”, “who’s the audience?”, and “what’s the genre of the story?” can tell us a lot about the narrative and what impact it may have.
Narrative Medicine pays attention to structure, imagery, tone, character types, genre, story logic, and narrators. Each of these affects how care in medicine and the health care system itself is directed and delivered. Learn more about the speakers and view the entire afternoon’s schedule on the MacLean Symposium websiteAdd this event to your calendar.
The event is generously supported by The D.J. MacLean Endowment for English.
