Updates on Our Commitment to Mental Health and Wellness

Update From the President’s Cabinet

As we work together to make mental health and wellness a top priority on campus, we want to share recent progress toward that commitment.

The mental health task force had its first meeting in January with more than 80 alumni, parents, students, staff, and faculty signed up to work on our shared commitment to create a campus where everyone thrives. Task force members have been invited to sign up for one of seven working groups, each with a charge to be completed by the end of the academic year.

Prior to Winter Break, we launched QPR training for all employees to create a shared approach to reducing the risk of suicide on our campus.  We are asking all employees to complete the training by the end of Block 6.

In December we announced a new telehealth service which provides all students with free, unlimited access to therapists and on-demand counseling . As of today, 165 students have actively registered, and 117 students have used the service.

We are currently assessing our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for access, quality, and services to ensure we have the required resources to meet staff and faculty mental health needs. Here is what we discovered.

In the Work of the College Roadshow series, we have held two events discussing our new anonymous reporting tool, with a third session scheduled for March 15. The portal will go live this month. You can learn more about this program by visiting our website, Speak Up Colorado.

We are close to completing the mental health questionnaires for all our student athletes. Once we have the required data, Children’s Hospital’s clinical psychologists will evaluate the data and come back to CC with recommendations for improved mental health resources for the athletics department.

Our search for the new associate vice president of wellness is well underway and we hope to invite finalists to campus by mid-March, during which the campus community will have opportunities to engage directly with each of the finalists.

Seventeen faculty and staff attended the first arts and crafts program for wellness Feb. 8. The next session will be held Feb. 24, from noon-2 p.m. For more information on how you can participate, please visit the arts and crafts web page.

As we move forward in our commitment to our campus community, we will continue to send updates. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please visit the cabinet mental health and wellness commitment website, or reach out to one of the cabinet members.

BLOCK 6: CROWN FORUM:

ANTIRACISM IMPLEMENTATION PLAN GOALS

How to Increase Compositional Diversity of CC Community

The FEC’s number one priority this year is to support the college in implementing the antiracism plan goals while upholding academic freedom.  We are co-sponsoring a series of forums from Blocks two to seven with each forum focusing on a specific goal of the antiracism plan.  The summary of feedback from past forums is available on the FEC canvas page.

The next forum will be on Wednesday, March 8, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Tutt Library 411/412.  We sincerely hope that you will attend and give us your feedback to inform our future work on implementing the antiracism plan goals.  The goal for this forum is to discuss how to Increase Compositional Diversity of CC Community.  Please join us for a fearless but mutually respectful dialogue. To make the forum as productive as possible, please review the initiatives that are part of this goal, which can be found here, and review a glossary of ADEI terms, which can be found here.

Our Decision to Pull Out of U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Don’t Forget the Block 6 First Monday, Feb. 27 at 11:15 a.m.

Don’t forget the Block 6 First Mondays speaker, Monday, Feb. 27, at 11:15 a.m. in the Kathryn Mohrman Theatre.

Start Block 6 with the campus community by joining us for a talk by Melanie Auguste ’09, as she shares her unique journey from CC to Nike with “Finding Your ‘Mountain’ and Learning to Climb It: My Journey from CC to Nike and the Lessons I’m Learning.”
Auguste will help students understand the benefits of finding your topic, your dream, and your skill by sharing the importance of goal setting, the unquantifiable value of embracing failure, and how having resilience when encountering adversity will lead you to the right opportunities.
Auguste, who was a four-year starter on the women’s basketball team and received the Josten’s Award for Most Outstanding Player in DIII in her senior year, is now Vice President of Global Brand Narrative, Purpose, and Athlete Marketing for Nike. As such, she is responsible for driving Nike’s brand strategy and advertising with Nike’s most iconic athletes.

The First Mondays Event Series is a campus-wide forum that aims to engage all members of the CC community, including students, staff, administrators, and faculty. The series creates opportunities for the whole community to gather, encouraging everyone to be part of the intellectual life of the college, and facilitating discourse among students, faculty, and staff, across courses, disciplines, and divisions. Classes are dismissed early on the first Monday of each block so that all may attend the First Mondays event.
