Musical Guests Take the Stage at Inauguration

Colorado College will celebrate and honor its 14th president at L. Song Richardson’s inauguration ceremony on Monday, Aug. 29, the start of the new academic year. 

Professor of Music Ofer Ben-Amots composed the inaugural fanfare which will be performed by Benjamin Paille on trumpet, Ricky Sweum on saxophone, and Susan Grace, director of the Summer Music Festival and associate chair, artist-in-residence, and senior lecturer in music, on piano.

Jaiel Mitchell ’18 and Chidera Ikpeamarom ’22 will perform inspiring musical pieces, the CC Gamelan Orchestra will lead the recessional at the conclusion of the ceremony. 

We hope you’ll join the celebration on Monday, Aug. 29. The ceremony will take place on the Mainstage at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College. Doors open at 8 a.m. and the ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m.

A limited number of tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve tickets, visit the Worner Desk and show your CC Gold Card. Once tickets for theatre seating are gone, you can pick up tickets for limited seating in an overflow space at the FAC. You can also tune into coloradocollege.edu/inauguration for the livestream of the ceremony, or watch a recording after the event concludes.

Don’t Forget to Register for Fall Conference 2022

Tomorrow, Aug. 19, is your last chance to register for Fall Conference!


Fall Conference is Thursday, Aug. 25, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tava Quad. Light breakfast is served beginning at 7:45 a.m., and programming begins promptly at 8 a.m.

This year Fall Conference will serve as the kick-off for the inauguration festivities for the 14th President of Colorado College, L. Song Richardson, with a BIPOC Presidents’ Roundtable conversation about the value of liberal arts in the current higher education landscape. The roundtable will be moderated by CC alum and trustee Ryan Haygood ’97 and include President Richardson, Associated Colleges of the Midwest President Sonya Malunda, and College of the Holy Cross President Vincent Rougeau.

Following the roundtable and a brief update by President Richardson, attendees will have the opportunity to join a variety of workshops and classes with fellow faculty and staff colleagues.

Get to Know President L. Song Richardson

Did you know … Right now, President Richardson is reading nonfiction by Michael Sandel, “The Tyranny of Merit: What’s Become of the Common Good” and is anxiously awaiting a new fiction novel, Louise Penny’s new Inspector Gamache mystery titled “A World of Curiosities.
“I love books on leadership,” Richardson says. “My most recent read is Chip Conley’s ‘Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow.'”
