Get Ready for NSO 2022

New students arrive this week! Here is what you need to know to help make New Student Orientation 2022 a success.

While we have already welcomed a number of new students to campus, including fall athletes and Bridge Scholars, we are looking forward to greeting the Class of 2026, as well as incoming transfer students, on the first day of New Student Orientation on Saturday, Aug. 20! Many will begin arriving in Colorado Springs early and may choose to stop by various campus offices to take care of outstanding business on Friday; we thank you for helping welcome these new CC community members when you see them on campus.

Detailed arrival directions and a parking map will be shared with new students and families today, as well as posted on the NSO web page. On Saturday, Aug. 20, we encourage staff members who will be on campus to utilize street parking or park in areas other than the C-2 Armstrong and C-1 Tutt Library lots and Robson Arena garage; these lots and the garage will be used as unloading zones for residence halls and the mailroom, as well as visitor parking.
Here is some additional information that may be helpful when answering questions from students and families:
NSO Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Students and their guests should report to the NSO Check-in Tent on Tava Quad prior to moving into their residence hall. At check-in, we will confirm that immunization and vaccination forms have been submitted (a requirement of on-campus living) and give students their NSO nametag and CC Gold Card. During move-in, RAs, volunteers, and staff will be available to answer questions, lend a hand, and provide directions.
COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Strategies: Students and guests are encouraged to test at home prior to arriving at campus. Should a student test positive before arriving on campus, they should isolate in place (stay home/not come to campus) and complete NSO remotely. Regardless of whether or not students test before coming to campus, all students will be given a test kit at check-in and asked to complete that COVID test on the day of arrival to campus. Students who test positive should remain masked and will receive additional information about isolation protocol and how to participate in NSO remotely. Students who test positive should remain masked and will receive additional information about isolation protocol and how to participate in NSO remotely.
The on-campus portion of NSO will take place Saturday, Aug. 20 through Wednesday, Aug. 24. The off-campus Priddy Experience will run from Thursday, Aug. 25 through Saturday, Aug. 27, with the return of overnight off-campus trips.
After the Welcome Luncheon on Tava Quad, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, the New Student Orientation Program kicks off with welcoming remarks from President L. Song Richardson at 1:30 p.m. in Ed Robson Arena.
Family and Guest Orientation also begins with the President’s Welcome in Ed Robson Arena and continues from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Cornerstone Arts Center with a variety of information sessions and a resource fair.
Students and their guests are welcome to enjoy a free dinner at Rastall Cafe or check out a downtown restaurant before enjoying Sweet Send-Offs at the NSO tent on Tava Quad from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Family and Guest Orientation concludes at 8:45 p.m.
Should anyone have questions about making tuition payments or financial aid, both the Student Accounts Office, located in Spencer Center 116, and the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment, located in Spencer 134, will be open Friday beginning at 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The NSO schedule takes inspiration from the Block Plan and gives students a taste of a “typical” class day: required sessions are offered each morning and the afternoon is open for them to create their own CC adventure — attend sessions, explore campus, get to know resources, and prepare for the semester ahead. Students are required to attend at least two conference-style sessions throughout NSO; thanks to the many departments and individuals that are hosting these sessions!
In addition to the Family and Guest Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 20, we will also hold a Student Resource Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Worner Campus Center. If you have questions about the Student Resource Fair, please contact Allis WerkmeisterPlease contact Janna Jones in the Office of Alumni and Family Relations with questions about the Family Resource Fair.
CC Fest is happening Saturday, Aug. 27, 4 – 8 p.m. on Tava Quad to wrap up orientation week, with an evening full of activities, a welcome back food truck dinner for ALL incoming and returning students, and will end with a late-night breakfast.
The entire NSO schedule, which includes a brief overview of Family Orientation, is available here.
Please feel free to refer students, families, or others looking for general assistance to the Office of Campus Activities at (719) 389-6800 or the Worner Desk (719) 389-6000 to have their questions answered or point them to the Questions and Contacts section of CC Bound for more specific help.
This is an especially busy, and sometimes stressful, time for many new students and their families. It is also one of the most exciting times of the year as we meet our future advisees, campus leaders, and alumni. On behalf of the NSO and Priddy planning teams, thanks to each of you in advance for your contributions toward making New Student Orientation a success!

Need to Know Details of CC’s COVID-19 Plan

Dear Students and Families,

I am sure you have a lot of questions on how CC will be managing COVID-19 and other communicable disease on campus this academic year. As we have all been living under the cloud of COVID for the past two years, we can agree we need to be flexible as cases can, unfortunately, multiply quickly, especially on a college campus. Below I have highlighted the measures we have in place to keep members of the CC community healthy. If you have questions, please visit our website first. If you still have questions, students and parents can reach out to the Wellness Resource Center.
As you may know, Colorado College employs a public health framework for COVID-19 and other communicable disease decision-making that is informed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in consultation with the El Paso County Public Health Department.
Some areas we know you are interested in:
Coming to campus: We encourage everyone to test at home prior to coming to campus. Free tests are available through most local health departments, or through COVIDtests.gov; you can also buy tests in pharmacies and retail stores throughout the U.S. All insurance carriers now reimburse up to eight tests a month per individual.
All students, whether they tested prior to arrival or not, will be given a test kit at check-in and asked to complete it on the day of arrival to campus.
Vaccination: We require proof that every student, faculty, and staff member has been vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. Although medical, religious, and personal exemptions are available, 89.7% of our community have been vaccinated AND boosted.
Masking: Students may choose to wear a mask at any time, for any reason. However, you are expected to wear a mask when interacting with others if you are feeling unwell, including with COVID-like symptoms. If you test positive and have a roommate, we require you wear a mask in the room and any time you leave your room during the isolation period. Additionally, those who are not fully vaccinated/not up to date with vaccinations are encouraged to wear a mask in public indoor spaces, in accordance with CDC guidance
Symptomatic testing: Students with any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or in need of pre-travel tests should get tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection.  Students can schedule an appointment at the Student Health Center. Anyone who tests negative but still feels symptoms should mask and re-test one to two days after your first test unless your medical provider can identify another cause for those symptoms. Also, if a student has been in close contact (within six feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with confirmed COVID-19, they should get tested five to seven days after exposure.
If you test positive: Students who test positive for COVID-19 will follow all isolation protocols and remain in their existing room assignment. There are a limited number of isolation rooms on campus that will be reserved for situations in which a student or their roommate have a documented medical condition that places them at risk of severe disease. Students in isolation will be instructed on how to pick up food and may use community bathrooms, but must wear a well-fitting N95 mask whenever outside their rooms. Students will work with their professors and can reach out to the Advising Hub for additional academic support.
Monkeypox: We know many of you are concerned about the monkeypox virus. Please know that while it likely will affect a very small portion of our campus population, we are prepared to manage the virus with preventative measures, messaging campaigns, containment, and care strategies.
Again, if you have more questions or would like more detailed information please visit our website.
The Student Health and Wellbeing staff and I are excited to work with you all as we join together to create a safe and healthy environment for our community.
Sincerely,

Heather Horton, Ph.D.

Senior Director of Student Health and Wellbeing
