Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

In 2021, a handful of grants officers from small liberal arts colleges organized four webinars featuring winners of highly prestigious grants & fellowships (ACLS, Ford, Guggenheim, & NSF CAREER) from small liberal arts colleges.<\/p>\n

One of the common refrains from the winners was the value of sharing multiple drafts with as many colleagues as possible in the months leading up to the deadline \u2013 colleagues in the same field, those in adjacent fields, even those in very different fields.<\/p>\n

This practice gives the applicant multiple opportunities to refine their language and strengthen their argument. I believe the benefits of this process also come full circle, benefiting the readers in various ways, particularly when preparing their own proposals for external funding down the road.<\/p>\n

CC faculty have been informally offering this support to each other for years. Let’s bring this fruitful practice out of the shadows, invite more intentional participation, and encourage greater connection among our grant-seeking community. <\/p>\n

Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship<\/strong><\/a><\/span>
<\/h1>\n

Summary: One-year research fellowship at a proposed institution with an identified mentor. <\/p>\n

Career Stage: Early career: Faculty are eligible as long as they earned their PhD in the seven years prior to the deadline<\/p>\n

Annual Deadline: Early December each year (Dec. 8, 2022)<\/p>\n

Award Amount: $50,000<\/p>\n

Awards made for study in \u201cresearch-based programs\u201d \u2013 please see List of Eligible Fields of Study<\/a><\/p>\n

Important: \u201cThe awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level in the U.S., show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.”<\/p>\n

Small Group Grant Gathering – Fulbright<\/span>
<\/h1>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
In Summer 2022 we began developing Small Group Grant Gatherings <\/a>to help faculty make progress in the grant development process. These groups are intended to help faculty developing a proposal for submission in the next 12 to 24 months. In order to fold more faculty into these affinity groups, we will be holding follow-up sessions in the upcoming year. On Thursday, Oct. 6th we will discuss the Fulbright Program.<\/strong>*<\/p>\n

Lunch will be available by 12:15 p.m; the session will begin at 12:30 p.m. The presentation, \u201cFive Ways to Prepare for a Future Fulbright Application,\u201d will end by 1:30 p.m., however participants are welcome to remain until 2 p.m. to discuss individual interests and circumstances. Please RSVP to Tess <\/a>before October 5th at midnight.<\/p>\n

CC Joins Diplomacy Lab<\/span>
<\/h1>\n
 
Thanks to a compelling proposal prepared by Assistant Professor of Political Science Jiun Bang, Colorado College has recently joined a network of ~45 colleges and universities in the Department of State’s Diplomacy Lab program.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents participating in Diplomacy Lab explore real-world challenges identified by the Department and work under the guidance of faculty members… This initiative allows students to contribute directly to the policymaking process while helping the State Department tap into an underutilized reservoir of intellectual capital.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will be two deadlines each year by which brief 200-word \u201cbids\u201d are submitted to the Department of State. The next deadline for participating is Oct. 18th for research projects to be conducted in Spring 2023.<\/strong> We invite CC faculty to to learn more<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n
