Are You Planning to Offer a Block Away in 2023-2024?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If your plan for next year includes a block course that takes students away from campus (domestic or international) for 10 or more consecutive nights, we want to know about it and include it in our list of Blocks Away for next year. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Why does this matter?<\/strong>  By including it as a Block Away, our office can assist with everything from budgeting to itinerary building, and we can provide financial aid for students who qualify. Students will enroll via Summit and you will have the ability to select the students who are then eligible to register for the course on Banner. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How do I register my course as a Block Away?  <\/strong>Fill out this Qualtrics survey with basic<\/span><\/p>\n

information about your course and we will include it in our roster of Blocks Away, send you an invitation to the Study Away Fair (Feb. 9) to represent your course, and include your course in the Aid process for Blocks Away. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What does Block Away Aid cover?<\/span><\/strong>  For students who qualify, Block Away aid covers anywhere from 20%-90% of the block’s program fee + estimated round trip airfare to the block destination. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Field Trip Fund: <\/strong><\/span>If you have a short, relatively local field trip you want to plan, and have exhausted department funds, the Field Study Fund may be able to help. Upcoming Fairs & International Education Week<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Global Education has some big events coming up this Winter.  We are asking for your help with one or more of these upcoming campus events. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

February 5-11 — International Education Week at CC: <\/span> <\/strong>We will be planning a week’s worth of events related to global issues, international student recognition, study & research abroad, and all things international.  If your department or office would like to sponsor an event, a speaker, a social gathering, or wants to contribute to one of our events, please just get in touch with me (Allen Bertsche) to be a part of what we hope will be our biggest and most engaging IEW yet.  <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

February 9 — Study Away Fair: <\/span> <\/strong>Worner Lobby & Gaylord Hall, 12pm-2pm.  This is the big one, like the State Fair but with a global focus and no food on a stick (sorry).  All 2023-2024 faculty-led study away programs (blocks, semesters, half-Semesters) will be present along with many of our partners for semester abroad opportunities.  We expect upward of 40 tables for students to visit. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Upcoming Deadlines<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While Fall is not the busiest season for study away applications, there are some deadlines you and your students might want to keep in mind.  Here are the upcoming deadlines related to study away:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

January 31: Application Window for Summer 2023 Blocks Away Closes<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Students may apply after this deadline but consideration for aid is not guaranteed after Jan. 31.  We recommend that all students interested in a Summer 2023 Block Away apply as soon as possible, but certainly before January 31. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

February 9-March 21:<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong> Application Window for 2023-2024 Blocks Away<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Students who wish to enroll in one of the 2023-2024 AY Blocks Away should do so during this application window.  The window opens on the day of the Study Away Fair, February 9, and remains open through March 21.  Late applications can be accepted but aid may not be available after March 21.  <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

March 15: Deadline for Semester Away Applications<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Internal Application for students to apply for a semester or academic year length partner program away is March 15. Late applications are not accepted beyond this date.  This internal application should be paired with the partner organization or university’s own application process to ensure transfer of credit and financial aid support from Colorado College. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

While our external reporting of Study Away numbers is not due until March, we are happy to report that 2021-2022 saw a major bounce back for study away participation compared to the 2020-2021 academic year which was so heavily impacted by COVID-19.  What’s more, we believe 2022-2023 is shaping up to be even better.  Here are a few of the very positive signs that study away is on its way to resuming pre-pandemic interest levels. <\/p>\n

None of this happens without your dedicated work with students to encourage them, advise them, and provide students with opportunities.  It has been a rough couple of years, but thanks to all your hard work and engagement with study away on so many different levels, we expect CC to be a leader in study away participation, right back where we were pre-pandemic, among the best in the nation when it comes to engaging students with a wider world, with people, cultures, and communities that broaden their horizons, engage their imagination, and foster their ability to live and work in an interconnected globe. <\/span> <\/p>\n
