Global Education Website Update<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Global Education & Field Study Website is going through a renovation process as we try to create a site that has more intuative navigation and which speaks to prospective students, families, current students, staff, and faculty.  New features will be added throughout the fall, but for now, the main updates are in the structuring and presentation of key information around study away at CC.  Feel free to check out the updated Global Education site(s) here<\/a>. <\/span> <\/p>\n

We have two different faculty-facing workshops & info sessions this fall.  Our “Build A Block Away” Workshop is open to all faculty interested in developing a block away course.  We will cover everything from starting points to budgeting, partnerships, hiring a Second Adult, and the timeline to take your idea from concept to proposal, and on to enrolled course.  The second event is our Faculty Leaders Lunch, a program specific to faculty already scheduled to lead students on a study away during the upcoming year.  If you are leading a block away or a longer half- or full-semester, please plan on attending one of the upcoming Faculty Leader Lunches. <\/span> <\/p>\n

We may just be starting off the 2023-2024 year, but a lot of dates, deadlines and application periods for the upcoming 18 months are already upon us. Here are the key dates to keep in mind as you advise students or plan for an Off-Campus course proposal for the next year.<\/span><\/p>\n

SEMESTER AWAY FAIR <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday, Sept. 6  (Block 1, Week 2)<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

This Fall’s Semester Away Fair will be in the Worner Center Lobby from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 6..  Representatives from all 2024 CC-led semesters as well as many of the providers of our 130+ partner semester away options will be present. Please encourage your students and advisees to attend. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

BLOCK 7-8 OFF CAMPUS BLOCK APP WINDOW CLOSES<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday, Sept. 20  (Block 1, Week 4)<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The last day of Block 1 is the last day when students can apply for all Block 7 and Block 8 Off-Campus block courses and be included in the financial aid review pool.  Many, though not all, programs still have open spaces to accept new students, but applicants after this date are far less likely to be able to obtain an aid award. Please remind your advisees and students of this deadline and advise them to speak to the individual course leaders to determine if space is still available in the course which interests them. <\/span><\/em> <\/p>\n

DEADLINE FOR INITIAL FACULTY PROPOSALS FOR SUMMER 2024 OFF-CAMPUS BLOCKS<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Monday, Oct. 2  (Block 2, Week 2)<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Faculty wishing to offer a Summer 2024 off-campus block must complete the initial Summit proposal by Monday, October 2nd to be considered.  These initial proposals do not require syllabi, completed budgets, or SRA selections, only relevant course information and departmental approval. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span>These proposals will be reviewed by the Dean of the Faculty and Global Education.  Faculty whose courses are approved will then work with Global Ed to confirm initial budgets and staffing (Second Responsible Adults) by the end of Block 3. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span> <\/p>\n

SPRING 2024 SEMESTER AWAY STUDENT APPLICATION DEADLINE<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sunday, Oct. 15   (Block 2, Week 4)<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

All applications to join both partner-led spring semesters away and the CC Semester in France program for Blocks 5-8 must be completed and submitted by October 15th.  Students should complete these forms on Summit and submit them for review by October 15th.  Late applications will not be considered.  Please remind your advisees of this important deadline. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We absolutley expect that these proposals may need to be adjusted as the course grid is finalized later in the year, but early notification makes it possible for us to prepare for the application cycle and the marketing of programs as they develop over the remainder of the fall. <\/span><\/em><\/span>These proposals will be reviewed by the Dean of the Faculty and Global Education.  Faculty whose courses are approved will then work with Global Ed to confirm initial budgets and staffing by the end of Block 4. <\/em><\/span> <\/p>\n

Our annual Summer Block Away Fair will be held on the 30th of November, from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. in the Worner Center Lobby.  This will feature all of the Summer Off-Campus Blocks approved in October. Please encourage your students and advisees to attend.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

PLANNING TO LEAD A BLOCK AWAY <\/strong><\/span><\/span>OR AN OFF-CAMPUS FIELD TRIP?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Please complete the required CANVAS course <\/strong><\/span><\/span>“Taking Academic Courses Off-Campus” first. <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Center for Field Study and Global Education has spent a part of the summer revising, updating, and improving the Canvas course for faculty and staff called “Taking Academic Courses Off-Campus”.  It includes guidance and college policy on everything from transportation to per diem, staffing to emergency management plans.  It is essentially our handbook for all Off-Campus travel with students, and it is required for all faculty who plan to take students off our campus as part of an academic course. .<\/span> <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you are planning to take students off campus for anything from a day trip to a full semester away, you are required to complete the essential modules for each travel type (Domestic Field Trip, International Travel, Blocks or Semesters Away) prior to departure.  Completing the course once allows you to travel with students throughout the upcoming year.  There is also a set of modules for your Second Responsible Adult to complete to ensure that they are familiar with expectations and requirements for their role with your traveling group..  The course is divided into several short modules so that you can review the material at your own pace, and does include several check-in quizzes so <\/span>that your completion of the course can be verified. <\/span><\/p>\n

Planning a Regional, or Domestic Field Trip?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Field Trip Fund: <\/strong><\/span>If you have a short, relatively local field trip you want to plan, and have exhausted department funds, the Field Study Fund may be able to help. Do You Have International Students, <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Student Workers, or Advisees? <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
