Sustainable Saturday Screenings<\/span><\/u><\/h1>\n

Looking to relax and watch a captivating film with your friends? The Office of Sustainability has teamed up with the <\/span><\/span>Film and Media Studies Department<\/span><\/span><\/a> to present a <\/span>Blockly<\/span> event called<\/span><\/span> Sustainab<\/span>le Saturday <\/span>Screenings<\/span><\/span>. Held once a block, we invite you to immerse yourself in an interdisciplinary learning experience where sustainability meets the big screen. Join us on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the Cornerstone Screening Room at the Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center to see a riveting film,\u202f<\/span><\/span>A Life on Our Planet<\/span><\/span><\/a>. PikeRide is Hiring<\/span><\/h1>\n

Do you know the basics of fixing bikes and want to<\/span><\/span> help out your local campus community<\/span>?<\/span> Make sure you check out the\u202f<\/span><\/span>PikeRide<\/span><\/span>\u202fStudent Field Tech position on Handshake! Field Techs work with the\u202f<\/span><\/span>PikeRide<\/span><\/span>\u202fOperations Manager to <\/span>assist<\/span> in rebalancing the\u202f<\/span><\/span>PikeRide<\/span><\/span>\u202ffleet across campus and downtown Colorado Springs, taking them to get serviced for repair, monitoring, and charging bike batteries and performing simple repairs to the bicycles. <\/span>Some requirements include being able to lift bikes up to 60lbs, having the ability to work independently for at least one 4\u20135-hour shift per week on average, and balancing scheduling needs with other student field techs.<\/span> Applications are open here<\/a> from Nov<\/span>.<\/span> 1 to Nov. 26 at 11:59 p.m.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

While the <\/span>O<\/span>ffice<\/span> of Sustainability<\/span> <\/span>continues its mission to foster communication, collaboration, and coordination between the college and stakeholders in the broader community, we recognize that we are not alone in this effort. As such, we would like to highlight the <\/span><\/span>Collaborative for Community Engagement\u2019s (CCE)<\/span><\/span><\/a> mission in co-creating community-engaged learning experiences to <\/span>help <\/span>students <\/span>become <\/span>engaged citizens. One way that you can forge a path to create a more sustainable community is by becoming involved with various CCE projects such as Concrete Couch. <\/span><\/span>Concrete Couch<\/span><\/span><\/a> is a <\/span>community-based non-profit organization<\/span> that was founded by Steve Wood<\/span> \u2019<\/span>84. The group aims to engage the local Colorado Springs community in art and educational projects. Meet the Team: Waste Team<\/span><\/u><\/h1>\n
<\/div>\n
This block, we are proud to introduce you to the OOS Waste Team, which is involved in a variety of sustainability initiatives on campus, from <\/span><\/span>establishing<\/span> recycling and composting bins with signs in all academic buildings, to waste audits, composting programs, and improving the residential waste infrastructure. The team also works on special programs, such as Trash Peak during <\/span><\/span>Earth Week<\/span><\/span><\/a>, and on smaller projects with our food catering company, Bon App\u00e9tit. <\/span>This academic <\/span>year, we have a team of three interns<\/span>: <\/span>Alexa Rennie \u201924, Jasmine Sone \u201924,<\/span> and <\/span>Chase Hetler \u201925, <\/span>along with <\/span>their <\/span>three<\/span> dedicated volunteers<\/span>: <\/span>Martina Hasler Arantes<\/span> \u2019<\/span>25<\/span>, Lauren Moore<\/span> \u201926, <\/span>and Em <\/span>Renetzky<\/span> \u201927<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Rennie \u201924 enjoys the people she gets to work with, as she reflects on how wonderful her team is! <\/span>Sone<\/span> \u2019<\/span>24 is an Environmental Science major and enjoys the collaborative aspect of the OOS, especially within the team, as her fellow interns\u2019 contributions are integral. She is also currently working on a consulting project with CC Admissions. Lastly, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Hetler \u201925<\/span> is<\/span> an <\/span>Environmental Science and Political Science double major<\/span> and <\/span>is currently studying <\/span>ecology<\/span> and ecosystem science <\/span>in Costa Rica <\/span>with CC Professor Miro Kummel. <\/span>Let\u2019s<\/span> give a <\/span>BIG thanks to our wonderful Waste Team for <\/span>all<\/span> their <\/span>hard work!<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

Recap of Goth Prom and CC Exchange Flair Pop-Up<\/span><\/h1>\n

Thanks to the Butler Center<\/a>, CCSGA<\/a>, Office of Sustainability (OOS)<\/a>, and Arts & Crafts<\/span><\/a>, Goth Prom was a huge success, and we hope you all had an amazing time! The CC Exchange\u2019s Pop-Up event allowed students to reduce their Halloween-related waste, and swap costumes and other items for Goth Prom. With students lined up minutes before the event commenced, it is evident CC students recognize that through communal efforts, we can work together to reduce our individual carbon footprints. Great job everyone!
