EcoFund: Local Perspectives on COP28<\/span><\/h1>\n
<\/div>\n
CC<\/span><\/span> has a profound <\/span>affinity<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> providing students with the knowledge and resources necessary to become <\/span>society\u2019s<\/span> next generation of leaders. One way student innovation and leadership are fostered is through the <\/span><\/span>EcoFund<\/span><\/span><\/a>, a fund designed <\/span>for <\/span>and committed to the <\/span>c<\/span>ollege’s core value of environmental sustainability while aligning with the<\/span> <\/span> <\/span>United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/span><\/span><\/a>. <\/span>During<\/span><\/span> Block 4, <\/span>Zoraiz Zafar \u201925 was awarded the Ecofund<\/span>, which he <\/span>utilized<\/span> to broaden climate change dialogues beyond the confines of the United Nation\u2019s COP28 conference in the United Arab Emirates <\/span>(UAE) <\/span>and actively involve local communities. This initiative reflects his commitment to a comprehensive and critical approach towards COP28. Passion to Action: Building a Sustainable Creative Career<\/span><\/h1>\n

Earth Week is Coming Soon<\/span><\/h1>\n

Are you ready <\/span>for CC\u2019s annual <\/span><\/span>Earth Week<\/span><\/span><\/a>?<\/span> <\/span>Taking place from <\/span><\/span>Apr. 22<\/span>-26<\/span><\/strong><\/span>, <\/span>this <\/span>action-packed, and meaningfu<\/span>l <\/span>event<\/span> is <\/span>a great way<\/span> to celebrate and protect our planet! Meet the Emissions Team<\/span><\/h1>\n
<\/div>\n
Over the past four blocks, <\/span><\/span>the OOS<\/span> ha<\/span>s<\/span> detailed the challenges and successes of four key <\/span>i<\/span>ntern teams: CC Exchange, the Waste Team, the Communications Team, and the STARS Team. Today, we are excited to highlight our last student intern team of the year: the Emissions Team! Interns Erin Mullins \u201924, T\u00e2m Phan \u201925, and Ethan Stewart \u201925, alongside their <\/span>three fantastic <\/span>volunteers<\/span>,<\/span> Sadie Curtin-Adelman \u20192<\/span>7<\/span>, Chris Burich \u201924, and Emma Nawara \u201924,<\/span> <\/span>help<\/span> analyze and record critical emissions data every academic year. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>T<\/span>he Emissions Team’s primary purpose is to collect data on the various sources of emissions<\/span> for which<\/span> CC is <\/span>responsible,” Stewart<\/span> says.<\/span> <\/span>\u201c<\/span>This includes direct sources like fuels consumed by our vehicle fleet as well as indirect sources like student, faculty, and staff travel.\u201d <\/span>The interns\u2019 <\/span>main goal right now is <\/span>finishing up<\/span> their annual greenhouse gas inventory report, which will be published by the end of Block 6. Mullins emphasizes that<\/span>,<\/span> \u201ca <\/span>GHG <\/span>[greenhouse gas] <\/span>inventory calculates how many emissions are emitted during the year based on the school\u2019s operations and behaviors.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Without measurement tools in place to track our campus\u2019 emissions, CC would not be able to make recommendations about future sustainability projects and readjust our emissions targets. Phan conveys that the flexible nature of the OOS has allowed her to transition to the Emissions Team after having first worked as a Campus Programming Intern last year. Lastly, Phan acknowledges <\/span>that \u201cthe unwavering support from <\/span>the <\/span>OOS has made<\/span> me<\/span> feel safe stepping out of<\/span> <\/span>my comfort<\/span> zone and trying new roles<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>T<\/span>he OOS has <\/span>supported <\/span>me <\/span>w<\/span>ith a solid foundation<\/span> <\/span>with<\/span> help from<\/span> Sustainability Coordinator, Mae Rohrbach, the OOS team, and learning materials passed down from <\/span>previous<\/span> OOS generations, on <\/span>which <\/span>I <\/span>can <\/span>confidently rely.\u201d<\/span> <\/span>Here\u2019s<\/span> a <\/span>big<\/span> thank you <\/span>to<\/span> the Emissions Team for your continued <\/span>hard work<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>W<\/span>e <\/span>can\u2019t<\/span> wait to read your final report!<\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

E-Waste Drop-Off Event for Block 6<\/span><\/h1>\n

We are hosting an<\/span>other<\/span><\/span>\u202f<\/span>E-Waste Drop-Off<\/span>\u202f<\/span>event at<\/span>\u202f<\/span>Breton Hall Garage on <\/span>Friday<\/span>, <\/span>Mar<\/span>. <\/span>1,<\/span> from 1:3<\/span>0<\/span>–<\/span>3:30 p.m.<\/span><\/span> To<\/span> drop your items off, please refer to the map below to <\/span>locate<\/span> the Breton Hall Garages (the NW corner of parking lot C-1). Staff will be there to help you unload your items. We recycle electronic waste, including items <\/span>that are <\/span>no longer <\/span>wanted<\/span>, <\/span>working<\/span>, or at the end of their \u201clife.\u201d Acceptable and commonly recycled items include TVs, monitors, keyboards, cables, appliances, digital media players, cell<\/span> <\/span>phones<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Please note we cannot recycle alkaline batteries, which include most household batteries like Duracell,\u202fEnergizer, and others.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
*Please note that if your items are both college-issued AND contain a hard drive (laptops, computers,\u202fetc.), you must reach out to ITS for them to wipe this hard drive before recycling. Additionally, a pickup option is available ONLY for office\/departmental requests. Drop-off at the E-Waste garage is the only option for any personal requests from CC community members. <\/span><\/div>\n

Spring Revival Event Recap<\/span><\/h1>\n


<\/span><\/h1>\n
Last block, the <\/span>OOS <\/span>organized Spring Revival, an annual post-Winter Break event for Sustainability <\/span>i<\/span>nterns and <\/span>v<\/span>olunteers to <\/span>unite <\/span>and foster connection and reflection. The event was in partnership with Arts & Crafts, <\/span>located<\/span> in the basement of Worner Campus Center. Students were encouraged to take a break from their busy schedules and indulge in painting and block printing activities alongside their peers, tying together sustainability, art, and wellness. <\/span>Arts & Crafts graciously provided students with art supplies, materials, and the instructor\u2019s help and guidance throughout the session. The event was a wonderful place for the office to interact with each other and take a moment to relax while enjoying <\/span>yummy<\/span> desserts!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

Sustainable Wednesdays Recap and Announcement<\/span><\/h1>\n
<\/div>\n
The <\/span><\/span>CC Exchange<\/span><\/span><\/a> recently hosted the OOS\u2019s fifth Sustainable Wednesdays <\/span>event of the year at the Worner Campus Center, featuring an exciting scavenger hunt. Students were given descriptions of outfits, such as clothing <\/span>that’s<\/span> all one color, to pick out in the CC Exchange to win a donut. Paige Simenz<\/span> \u201924, an intern with the CC Exchange, expressed gratitude to all who <\/span>participated<\/span>. \u201cWe love every chance to bring new faces into the CC Exchange, and we hope you will come back and visit during our open hours!\u201d Simenz<\/span> says. The CC Exchange is a unique program that offers a variety of items, including clothing, books, and miscellaneous goods, all available for free to students. Best of all, donations are not <\/span>required<\/span> to obtain items. Open each Thursday from 2<\/span>–<\/span>4 p.m. in the basement of Worner, <\/span>we\u2019d<\/span> love to see you there to donate<\/span> or<\/span> add <\/span>some new flair <\/span>to your wardrobe<\/span>.<\/span> The next Sustainable <\/span>Wednesdays<\/span> event will be hosted by the Emissions Team <\/span>on Feb. 28, from 12:30 p.m-1:30 p.m.<\/b> where there will a block-printing activity and trivia. <\/span>See you there<\/span>!<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n
