It’s Time for the MacLean Symposium!<\/h1>\n
<\/div>\n
Join us on Thursday, April 11 in Celeste Theatre from 1:30-5:30 p.m. for the MacLean Symposium: Narrative Medicine<\/strong>. There are three sessions available: two keynote speakers and a panel. The keynote speakers\u2019 books will be available for purchase and both speakers will be available to sign books.<\/span> Light refreshments will be served in between sessions.<\/div>\n

What is Narrative Medicine? <\/span><\/h2>\n
<\/div>\n
Narrative Medicine is a way of thinking about how medical care is shaped by our stories \u2013 not only the themes and content of these stories, but their structure, delivery, and influence. Basic questions like \u201cwho tells the story?\u201d, \u201cwho\u2019s the audience?\u201d, and \u201cwhat\u2019s the genre of the story?\u201d can tell us a lot about the narrative and what impact it may have.<\/div>\n

Narrative Medicine pays attention to structure, imagery, tone, character types, genre, story logic, and narrators. Each of these affects how care in medicine and the health care system itself is directed and delivered. <\/div>\n
