\u201cCongratulations, Class of 2024, you did it!\u201d exclaimed L. Song Richardson at her final Commencement address as President of Colorado College. \u201cYou excelled in the classroom, guided by your dynamic professors and teachers. You did this while living through some of the most challenging times in recent history.\u201d<\/div>\n

CC\u2019s 558 graduates began their college career in the fall of 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer ruled the day; when so much uncertainty from a deadly virus sent classes \u2013 and life \u2013 to a virtual world; and students faced all those stressors on top of a rigorous academic schedule. They also endured an increasingly polarized political landscape, war, a growing mental health crisis, and climate change.<\/div>\n

The College Experience is on Campus Next Week<\/h1>\n

The College Experience (CXP) is returning to CC on June 1 in Cornerstone Screening Room. CXP is a program funded by the El Pomar Foundation that helps scholars explore different college campuses for free. It allows the Pre-Collegiate Program to hold these college visits throughout the Pikes Peak region so that students can make informed decisions about where they want to pursue postsecondary education.<\/span><\/div>\n

The Peace Corps recently announced its rankings of colleges and universities that have produced the highest all-time number of Peace Corps Volunteers since the agency was established in 1961. And CC ranks seventh in the small-sized enrollment category!<\/span><\/div>\n

Charlotte Combe \u201927 has won the Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellowship based on her potential for public leadership and her work in the community. Combe, a double major in Sociology and Gender Studies, is the co-founder of Substance Use Harm Reduction at CC (SUHR@CC<\/a>).<\/span><\/div>\n

Each year, CC\u2019s president nominates a single candidate for the Newman Civic Fellowship. In her nomination letter this year, L. Song Richardson wrote, \u201cCharlotte is driven by compassion and humanity. She believes a thriving community must care for all its members, especially its most vulnerable populations. This is why I know Charlotte has a bright future as a civic leader.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

It\u2019s arguably the most coveted scholarship for incoming college students in Colorado. Each year, The Boettcher Foundation awards the Boettcher Scholarship – $20,000 per year for four years to be used for tuition and fees at any institution in the state – to its top 50 applicants. The foundation looks for community-minded, service-focused, high academic achieving difference-makers who will pursue their undergraduate degree in Colorado and benefit the communities in which they live.<\/div>\n

<\/span> <\/p>\n

Now, four years after receiving the award, Boettcher Scholar Owen Rask \u201924 is looking back at his undergraduate experience at CC with a sense of pride and humility. He gives thanks to the Boettcher Foundation for providing him with not only financial support, but also a tight knit community of other Boettcher Scholars on campus.<\/div>\n
