The President\u2019s Office\u00a0invites you to contribute to the 2024-25 Conflict & Community<\/em> series. This year-long academic initiative aims to foster dialogue across diverse viewpoints, ideologies, and identities. Through workshops, lectures, book discussions, and small group dinners, participants will explore new perspectives, cultivate empathy, and deepen their understanding of the human experience.<\/p>\n

We are seeking proposals for gatherings that encourage participants to think critically, feel deeply, and cultivate empathy. CC has released the new ADEI Strategic Plan, “The Strategy for a More Just CC”<\/a>. This is a living document that will grow and change over time as people on campus, and in the broader community, contribute to and carry out its initiatives.<\/p>\n

Building on the 2019 AIP, this strategic plan focuses on three main themes, each with specific goals, ways to measure success, and tools to track progress. This plan is part of a larger vision led by Interim President Whitaker, her cabinet, and the CC community. As a Colorado Springs native, Marynn Krull \u201926 has wanted to give back to the community that raised her since entering college. In fact, one of the reasons she chose to attend CC was because she wanted to remain local and continue to help her hometown thrive.<\/p>\n

Krull is doing just that and more, as she\u2019s spending three months this summer working as a Public Interest Fellow with\u00a0Educating Children of Color\u00a0(ECOC), a 501(c)(3) organization working to dismantle the cradle-to-prison pipeline for children of color and children in poverty through education. Krull has experience in activism and grassroots organizing with youth and issues around education in Colorado Springs, so working with ECOC was a natural fit for her.<\/p>\n

NSO Begins Monday, August 19<\/h1>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

While we have already welcomed a number of new students to campus, including Fall athletes and Bridge Scholars, we are looking forward to greeting the entirety of the Class of 2028, as well as incoming transfer students, on the first day of New Student Orientation, Monday, Aug. 19! Many students will begin arriving in Colorado Springs early and may choose to stop by various campus offices to take care of outstanding business; we thank you for helping welcome these new CC community members when you see them on campus.<\/p>\n

Detailed arrival instructions and directions, including a parking map can be found on the NSO web page<\/a>. We encourage staff members who will be on campus Monday, August 19 to be aware of increased traffic in the C1 (Tutt Library) lot and the Robson Parking Garage; these will be used as unloading zones for residence halls and the mailroom, as well as visitor parking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

The FAC\u2019s new initiative,\u00a0Send a Student<\/em>, provided 135 local children access to theatre in the program\u2019s inaugural season last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hope is to bring each and every child in the Pikes Peak region through these doors, especially those who would not otherwise have the opportunity,\u201d says FAC Producing Artistic Director Chris Sheley. \u201cTheatre allows us all to see the world through someone else\u2019s eyes. It makes us more empathic, more inclusive, and quite simply, it makes us better humans.\u201d<\/p>\n

The goal of\u00a0Send a Student<\/em>\u00a0is to expose more children to live theatre by providing transportation and a free ticket for students from local Title 1 schools to see a show at the FAC. By increasing access to live theatre, the FAC hopes to help build the path to the next generation of theatre artists and viewers.<\/p>\n
