I am thrilled to be starting my fifth year at CC, in a new role and with reignited passion for antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion across campus. Many of you have seen the beautiful new Strategy for a More Just CC<\/a> signs around campus (shout out to the Comms team!). If you haven\u2019t had a chance, please take a look at the themes, goals, and metrics. I am particularly grateful for the collaboration of colleagues in Southwest Studies, Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies, and History, Dr. Santiago Guerra, Dr. Jamal Ratchford, and Dr. Karen Roybal who worked with me this summer to build awareness of the truly remarkable array of programs, research, and exhibitions which center our sense of place, <\/em>one of the key metrics in the plan.<\/p>\n

As CC commemorates its sesquicentennial, so too do we take this opportunity to reflect on our past, its implications for our present, and our responsibilities to our collective future. For us to authentically commit to the practice of antiracism, we must confront our past and tell a more complete story of our origins. We also must ensure that this story is a part of a collective understanding of our place in the region and that each new member of our community is empowered with knowledge, tools, and resources to reconcile it.<\/p>\n

I want to acknowledge and extend gratitude to the many people who have tirelessly worked to develop this understanding over the years. To learn more about how sense of place will be embedded in our commitment, please check out the preliminary Institutional Equity and Belonging webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n
