Hailed by The New York Times<\/em> for its Carnegie Hall debut as \u201cinvariably energetic and finely burnished\u2026 playing with earthy vigor,\u201d the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst Quartet was founded by the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Organization in 2010. The ensemble (Karla Donehew Perez, violin; Abi Fayette, violin; Paul Laraia, viola; and Karlos Rodriguez, cello) believes in the unity that can be achieved through music. With this in mind they imagine their programs and projects, all while redefining the classical music experience.<\/p>\n

Bluegrass Students Travel to Raleigh NC for the IBMA Bluegrass Live! Festival<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Check out what Maren Snow, ’24 said about the trip:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“One of the most exciting aspects of IBBA was being able to see all the different types<\/em> of Bluegrass music that were played, from performers of all different backgrounds and ages. With so many stages and performances, it was almost overwhelming trying to catch everything! For example, we saw a band that traveled all the way from Norway, as well as a group of incredibly talented kids as young as eight years old.”<\/p>\n

Snow has been a student of the CC Bluegrass program all four years of her time here. Her favorite part about the program is “the sense of community and personal connection that it creates, regardless of musical background or experience.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

What does the CC campus really sound like, below its surface? What can we hear when we truly listen?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to explore these questions, students collaboratively created a soundwalk for the general public to experience and learn from, as part of the course MU277\/EV277 Environment and Sound<\/em> (instructor: Iddo Aharony). The soundwalk is made of eight pieces created by small teams, merging field recordings and narration into unique audio essays\/compositions, to be experienced at these different locations via the geolocation app Echoes.xyz.<\/p>\n

To experience the soundwalk, search your phone’s app store for the free Echoes.xyz app; then access the specific soundwalk through either the link https:\/\/explore.echoes.xyz\/collections\/PqVQcvTSbeycJOGO<\/a><\/em> or scanning the QR code. “Ruby’s Castle Island” by Deth Rali<\/strong><\/p>\n

CC’s former Technical Director, Justin Maike, received a fantastic review in Denver’s 303 Magazine<\/em><\/a><\/em> for his band’s new album “Ruby’s Castle Island” which gives listeners a “fairytale-like experience” and treats the listeners to “cosmic synth layers.”<\/p>\n
