The Colorado General Municipal Election is only days away. Local elections are where your vote can make the most impact on issues that touch your life every day. All six Colorado Springs City Council district seats are up for election. Each eligible voter\u2019s ballot will contain only the city council candidates for their area of town based on the city council district boundary lines. Note<\/strong>: Districts have changed. For students who live on campus, you reside in District 3, and for students who live just North of Uintah, you reside in District 5. All others can find your district here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

Call for Nominations

The CCE is now accepting nominations for their annual awards! These awards recognize students, faculty, staff, and community organizations who have gone above and beyond in contributing to the public good. Nominations are accepted until midnight on Monday, Apr. 7<\/strong>. To nominate a student, faculty or staff member, or community organization, review awards and sample nominations here<\/a>, and then simply fill out this form<\/a>. Accompanying cash awards are generously supported by the Class of 1981. Email the CCE<\/a> with any questions. <\/p>\n

As a reminder, recipients will be honored at the Community Engagement Recognition Night (CERN) on Thursday, May 1 from 4:30-6 p.m.<\/strong> in Bemis Great Hall. Volunteer registration is live<\/a> for 2025 Department of Defense Warrior Games, taking place at Ed Robson Arena July 18-26!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Volunteering for this adaptive sports competition is a unique and rewarding opportunity to support and encourage permanently injured, ill, and wounded service members as they compete in sporting events. As a volunteer, you\u2019ll enhance the event overall while making a direct impact on the athletes\u2019 journeys, fostering a spirit of camaraderie, and empowering those who have sacrificed so much for our country.<\/p>\n

Volunteer opportunities include event set-up, registration, helping athletes with adaptive sports, guiding athletes to events, managing competition areas, and providing general support to ensure a smooth experience for participants and spectators alike.<\/p>\n

Volunteer instructions for CC students, faculty, and staff:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Register via the Rosterfy Volunteer System<\/a>, and be sure to enter Group Code CC2025.  You can also access the volunteer registration on the Warrior Games website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve registered, you will receive a confirmation email. When prompted, please verify your email address to ensure that you receive future communication and access to your volunteer portal.<\/p>\n

In the coming weeks, registered volunteers will receive messages about applying for specific volunteer roles and shifts. Each opportunity will feature a description and instructions to help clarify the nature and requirements of the role. Some roles will require the same individual to apply for multiple shifts. Some shifts will require training that will become available closer to the event. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

After graduating from CC, Veronica Paulsen \u201916 moved to Jackson, WY, and set her sights on big mountain skiing. In 2020, she was the first woman to land a back flip into Corbet\u2019s Couloir at Jackson Hole, an expert run that requires a 20- to 35-foot freefall, and was crowned the Queen of Corbet\u2019s. <\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to have a ski bum year and ski as much as I could,\u201d says Paulsen. \u201cBut then I got lured into these freeride competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n
