Josh Franklin to Appear as George Banks in FAC\u2019s Production of Mary Poppins<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

We are excited to announce that Josh Franklin, CC\u2019s Principal Voice Instructor and Musical Theatre Director, is playing the role of George Banks in the FAC\u2019s upcoming production of Mary Poppins<\/em>. <\/a> <\/p>\n

Franklin reflects on his experience: \u201cWhen I agreed to take on the role of George Banks, I had little idea of the emotional depth it would demand. What I discovered was something rare in musical theatre\u2014a beautifully crafted character with a rich and transformative journey. My excitement only grew as I met the extraordinarily talented cast and creative team, including the young, gifted actors portraying my children. In many ways, this marks my return to the stage after several years away while my husband (who also stars as Bert!) and I developed Icons<\/a>. Much like George Banks reconnecting with his inner child, as a former Broadway performer I feel as though I\u2019m rediscovering a beloved part of my life. We all know and cherish the film, but bringing these characters to life on stage offers an entirely new and deeply moving experience\u2014one I\u2019m thrilled to share with audiences.\u201d <\/p>\n

Professor Lidia Chang on Jane Austen & Co\u2019s \u201cMusic & the Regency\u201d <\/em>Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

In October, Assistant Professor of Music Lidia Chang appeared on the live web series Jane Austen and Co.<\/em><\/a> as part of their \u201cMusic and the Regency Series<\/a>.\u201d In the episode entitled \u201cFrivolity, Foppery, and the English Gentleman at Music,\u201d Chang explored how Jane Austen\u2019s novels offer a valuable window into the restrictive musical culture of Regency England, revealing nuances about how different kinds of people were allowed to engage with music.
