We are excited to welcome back distinguished guest artist Eiko Otake to campus this Block 7. Otake returns to teach DA233: The Nakedness of Being<\/em>, an experiential course that invites students to explore movement, memory, and human experience in a completely new way. Students are encouraged to explore this unique offering\u2014no prior dance experience required.<\/p>\n

A New York-based movement artist, Otake has been a longtime presence at Colorado College, sharing both her teaching and powerful performances, including What Is War<\/em> this past fall.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n

Looking for something energetic, meaningful, and completely different? West African Dance and Drumming will be offered in Blocks 7 and 8, and students are encouraged to enroll now to experience this dynamic and joyful course.<\/p>\n

Taught by Safietou \u201cDallo\u201d Goudiaby, this class is more than just movement. It is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural tradition through dance, drumming, and song.<\/p>\n

Dallo was born in the village of Thionck Essyl in the Casamance region of southern Senegal, West Africa. She grew up living a traditional Diola life, fishing in the river, growing rice, and gathering fruit and wild food in the forest. In her culture, dance is central to daily life, with every major event celebrated through movement.<\/p>\n

She has taught and performed throughout the Colorado Springs community and on campus at events such as the Imagination Celebration and the What If Festival.<\/p>\n

Dallo is passionate about sharing Senegalese dance and drumming because it allows her to pass on the beauty of her culture. As highlighted in the short film below, her teaching goes beyond choreography. Through rhythm, movement, and voice, she teaches connection, resilience, and ways of living.<\/p>\n
