The Buntport Theater Company, located in the Santa Fe Arts district of Denver, Colo., is an ensemble on the fringe of traditional theater that focuses on performances that are accessible to a wide range of audiences. The Company is made up of Brian Colonna ’00, Hannah Duggan ’98, Erik Edborg ’97, Erin Rollman ’98, Samantha Schmitz ’00, and Evan Weissman ’01, and an Education Team that includes Jessica Robblee and Mitch Slevc ’01.
Known for unusual adaptations and quirky original comedies, each season Buntport Theater debuts several new full-length productions in addition to a varied program that can include anything from live sitcoms to unique open mic nights to family friendly entertainment to an ongoing series at the Denver Arts Museum. With performances that USA Today describes as “bare-bones, unpretentious, and often brilliant,” the ensemble serves as the writers, the directors, the performers, and the technicians that make their unique productions possible.
Among the more than 100 awards Buntport Theater has received during the past 15 years, the company has been recognized with the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, the American Theater Wing’s National Theater Company award, and Westword’s Best Place for Family Theater award.
During Homecoming 2015, the company will receive CC’s Spirit of Adventure Award, which recognizes alumni who exemplify the unique CC experience through a life of intellectual, social, or physical adventure. These attributes are characterized by the late Robert M. Ormes ’26, a Colorado College English professor from 1952-73 who was the inaugural award recipient. He was an adventurer of the mind, body, and the spirit that exemplifies much of what is special about the college.
