i will forever and always be a black midi fan girl. so following the tragic announcement that black midi is “indefinitely over”, delivered by Geordie Greep on instagram live back in august, i have kept my eyes maximum peeled for what new musical explorations might arise from these 3 geniuses. Geordie Greep’s 2024 masterpiece, The New Sound, is an explosion of freak rock, steeped in the flavor of Brazilian rhythm. album of the year. Morgan Simpson, to my understanding has not released any music under his own name, rather has delivered earth shattering performances on his buddies tracks. but, former bassist, guitarist, and vocalist for black midi, Cameron Picton a.k.a Camera Picture, has been cheekily dropping musical treats for us via bandcamp. in may, i purchased a CD titled 44m50s, a gorgeous and intimate live recording that stretches its arms wide and gathers up as many genres and feelings as it possibly can.
BUT, very recently, Cameron released “Lecture 25” by My New Band Believe. i have not been able to stop listening. this song is catchy like a smile. it’s perfect for dancing alone in your bedroom or galloping through the days as the weather gets progressively warmer. it’s the part in a coming of age film where the main character runs down the street in a European city. it’s urgent, but not uncomfortable, rather the fast velocity of giggling glee and butterflies in your stomach. I BELIEVE!!!
listen here (& pay $1.29 for the track, i dare you)
