It\u2019s full of seamless transitions from one jazz-beat and sample to another. Earl\u2019s lyrics are significantly more dense here than on <i>I Don\u2019t Like Shit\u2026<\/i> or <i>Doris<\/i>, and in some ways, this contributes to some difficulty in approaching the album. Still, a single listen through the tracklist and the genius of the album and its maker become instantly clear. Maybe I\u2019ll have more concrete things to say after a few more listens. For now, I let the album play out and wash over me, like a slow-moving tsunami I\u2019ve not quite comprehended the magnitude of.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Bug Fight<\/strong> \u2013\u2013 \u201cWorm&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"350\" height=\"442\" style=\"position: relative; display: block; width: 350px; height: 442px;\" src=\"\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/track=3619537222\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is a recent single from Bug Fight, a band on the New Perfume label that is home to CC\u2019s own Seal Eggs and the upcoming Honour Council album. Musically, \u201cWorm\u201d reminds me of Ought, with a sharp, pleasantly dissonant inflection in guitar and vocals. Lyrically, it brings me right to Kafka\u2019s <i>Metamorphosis<\/i>, with lines like: \u201cOnwards, upwards, till death or a conception of a different world.\u201d The song lives in the abstract, but in an abstract that, even without totally understanding it, feels eerily reminiscent of the current cultural climate that surrounds me.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>A$AP Rocky<\/strong> \u2013\u2013 \u201cSundress\u201d (directed by Frank Lebon)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A$AP Rocky - Sundress (Official Video)\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ec3LoKpGJxY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Frank Lebon has been one of my favourite directors ever since I watched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=k2HRzIyyXvU\">his video<\/a> for King Krule\u2019s &#8220;Czech One.\u201d His video for A$AP\u2019s recent single is just as innovative, moving endlessly through lo-fi Super-8-esque shots to disorienting (in the best way) animation. While I\u2019m not a fan of the \u201cjealous-ex-girlfriend-with-a-gun\u201d narrative in the video, watching the video feels like a big breath of fresh air; in a climate that\u2019s so invested in narratives, it\u2019s so enjoyable to see as much emphasis on getting meaning from visual effects, rather than tropey storylines or characters.
