GR220/GR320 Topics: Revolutionary Writing. Block 7

What language is used to incite revolution? What revolutions have happened in language in recent history? This course lies at the intersection of politics, poetics, and critical thought. How is one’s political agenda portrayed and how does the language of portrayal revolutionize language itself? We will investigate fundamental revolutions from the enlightenment to the present in literature, politics, and thought by focusing on texts by Kant, Büchner, Schnitzler, Lasker-Schüler, Brecht, Jandl, Adorno, Arendt, Celan, Streeruwitz, Jelinek, and others. Taught in English.
