In order to design and implement effective interventions to improve the situation of women in science, data about key areas in which women experience inequality are essential. To illustrate this point, I will present data about the situation of women in physics and astronomy. While the number of women receiving bachelor’s degrees in physics in the U. S. continues to increase, the number of men is increasing faster. However, the data on representation do not tell the whole story.
