Block 3, 2019. This course compares the representation of Afro-Caribbean women by male authors in postcolonial writing to female authors in 20th-century writing. We will explore the Afro-Caribbean female corporeality to understand how women’s politicized bodies become artifacts of power. This course has an interdisciplinary approach that examines literature, history, and popular culture from Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Haiti. Prof. Ángela Castro, a specialist in Afro-Caribbean female writing, will bring the Colombian writer Adelaida Fernandez, who will offer a talk on her latest novel “Afuera crece un mundo.” Prereq: SP 306
