pale horse – Truman Sinclair
You are beautiful, sitting in the summer evening, the sun setting over your shoulder. You are home. Tall grass scratching at my ankles, full moon rising as I walk home.
Domoto – Geese
Soft, rich, resonant, emotional. Yet powerful, deep, and almost overwhelming. This song goes on forever and ever, round and round and round. Seeking shelter, something safe and warm. I found it in these melodies.
Time Will Tell – Bob Marley & The Wailers
A warm summer breeze on the water, take me home! Bob Marley’s sweet vocals bring me back to the screened-in porch on a sunny afternoon, or biking down a shady Main Street in the evening.
Strangers – Black Country, New Road for War Child Records
Everything good there is I have right here, right now. Beautiful people in the most beautiful place, let us run free forever between the mountains and the plains.
Black Flowers – Yo La Tengo
Woke up on the floor, but there’s nowhere I’d rather be than here. Sunny days in the backyard, feeling like today could go on forever, and boy, I’d like it to.
Take Me to the River – Talking Heads
Nothing like a body of water with your favorite people! And nothing like this album. And nothing like making dinner in cool places or dancing in the backyard or brushing your teeth to this song.
Jack Straw (Live in Paris 1972) – Grateful Dead
My favorite Dead song (and my favorite live version of this song), I grew up to Jack Straw. Prying moss out from between the bricks and weeding the driveway on weekend mornings. Hiding in the neighbor’s rhododendron bush, pretending it’s our castle.
Angelina – Pinegrove
Specifically the Skylight version. Paint peeling off the porch under the outdoor couch, smiling, giggling, and oh so high.
