Gary Clark Jr. has proven himself a versatile artist once again with his sophomore album “The story of Sonny Boy Slim.” His killer guitar riffs in combination with funk and soul influence throughout the album oozes soul. “Grinder” is an example of his grittier bluesy side and definitely worth a listen.
“Amnesia” is mellow, smart, and great for a contemplative Friday afternoon . Blu’s rhymes over Billie Holiday’s “Am I Blue” make for a crisp, soulful, and sophisticated sound sure to make you want to look up his other stuff (worth it.)
Don’t be fooled by the album’s vaguely unsettling cover photo featuring the New Zealand artist and his pencil mustache. Connan Mockasin’s sound is worth a listen: psychedelic, strange, and perfect for a Sunday Morning in the shade.
Courtney Barnett’s garage rock-infused folk-pop sound combined with her conversational, deadpan delivery of lyric makes for an interesting listen. This song is for that night you debated going to Classy Wednesday, Party in the Woods, whatever. The fact is part of you really wanted you to go, but to be honest you also kinda really wanted to take a chill night.
