The 1874 Society

Name: Tom Shallow

Class year: 1981

Major: Chemistry

Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO

Current profession: Director of Finance and Administration, Department of Microbiology, University of Colorado School of Medicine

Current city: Broomfield, CO

Freshman dorm building: Mathias

Favorite professor: So many, but if I must choose ~ Richard Taber in the Chemistry Department.

Favorite course: Again, how to choose? The list is too long.

Best block break memory: Camping at the base of the Maroon Bells near Aspen first block break sophomore year with Mathias floor-mates.

Why I came to CC: My older sister went to CC and I felt the Block Plan was intriguing and the liberal arts curriculum inspiring.

Favorite thing about CC: Of course I should say the Block Plan and block breaks, but intramural sports (hockey, basketball and softball) were some of my best non-academic experiences at CC.

Why I am an 1874 Society member: I feel a great responsibility to ensure the CC experience is available to students now and in the future. We were all lucky that alumni believed in CC with their donations when we were students. Now is my time to return the favor. In addition, Karen and I enjoy meeting the amazing members of the 1874 Society at the events.
