Professor and emcee Ryan Bañagale held an evening interview with Jamie Bernstein and Leonard Bernstein scholar Carol Oja to kick off the weekend-long symposium. Jamie Bernstein said that over 2,000 institutions world-wide were celebrating the 100th anniversary of her father. Bernstein discussed the reality behind the idyllic photo shown of her and her parents in front of a picket fence that was not likely to be a home they lived in as well as her shared love of the Beatles and the impact of growing up in a musical household.
