This spring, alumni will be asked to vote for an alumni trustee to serve on the college’s Board of Trustees. The successful candidate will serve a six-year term as one of three elected alumni trustees. The candidates advanced by the Alumni Association Board and its Nominating and Awards Committee are:
Karen Rechnitzer Pope ’70, P’04
Karen, who has a Ph.D. in art history, is a full-time faculty member of the Allbritton Art Institute at Baylor University. She also offers programs and educational travel with Art inSight Inc., Adventures in Art History. She has served CC in several capacities over the years — as a metro coordinator; a member of the Alumni Association Board; and a volunteer for reunions, admissions, development, and career services. At CC, she was a Boettcher Scholar, was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma and Tour Choir, and is the permanent class secretary for her class. She is a member of the college’s 1874 Society and the Barnes Society.
Doug Mitchell ’59
Doug is the national co-chair of Borden, Ladner, Gervais LLP, Canada’s largest law firm. He serves on the CC President’s International Advisory Board and has hosted events for alumni and parents in Calgary, and most recently in Vancouver during the Winter Olympic Games. Doug serves on the board of governors for the University of British Columbia, where the Thunderbird Sports Centre was recently named in his honor. He has a strong commitment to and interest in hockey and football, having played both at CC and while in law school. That commitment has extended to his current support of amateur athletics and the professional Canadian Football League, where he served as commissioner of the CFL and is presently a co-owner of the Calgary Stampeders Football Club. Doug is a member of the college’s President’s Circle.
Watch for your electronic or paper ballot, which will contain more detailed information on the candidates. Results will be announced in late spring.
