Charge It! CC Gets an EV Charging Station

CC is charging ahead with a new on-campus electric vehicle charging station, courtesy of Jim Burness ’90. Burness, the CEO of National Car Charging, arranged for the donation of the charging station from ChargePoint, the nation’s largest electric vehicle charging network. The new EV charging station is located at 830 N. Nevada Ave., in the parking lot on the southwest corner of Nevada Avenue and Cache La Poudre Street (across the street from Slocum Hall), making it easily accessible to Colorado College and the greater Colorado Springs communities, and helping to expand the electric vehicle infrastructure in Colorado. The Class of 2017: By the Numbers

Colorado College received 5,775 applications for the Class of 2017, an all-time record high. As a result, the overall acceptance rate for the class was 22 percent, an all-time low. Additionally: Nearly 2,800 applications were received under the Early Decision or Early Action plan 36 percent acceptance rate for Early Decision applicants 30 percent acceptance rate for Early Action applicants 12 percent acceptance rate for Regular Decision. The admit rates for all three rounds represent all-time lows for the college. 30 percent of admitted students self-identified as students of color

Taking the Liberal Arts to China

Why is higher education in emerging economies moving in the direction of the liberal arts even as this approach is being questioned in the U.S.? What role can CC play as a premier liberal arts institution in this realm? A Distinctive Place of Learning

How will we enhance our distinctive place of learning? To this question, the Strategic Planning subcommittee received hundreds of ideas from campus meetings and online communication. The suggestions were diverse and reached all aspects of CC life, from “a community garden for students, staff, and faculty,” to “high performance levels for college buildings over the next decade,” to “courses of studies linked to internships on global change and sustainability,” “showcase campus xeriscaping,” and whimsical suggestions such as “boulder in the quad for climbing!” Equipped with the bumper crop of ideas, we got to work on synthesizing these suggestions into strategic initiatives.
