Back to the Future: Returning to CC to Teach a Block Course

Each year, we have a number of executives who teach or co-teach an entire block for us in the economics and business department. The year 2008 was no exception, and included Van Skilling ’55, Phil Condit P’91, Carlos Frum ’72, and David Helms ’65, who was here to teach a course — The Economics of Health Care — for us. (We also have many other alumni and others who are on campus for shorter visits to participate in our classes.) On March 24, President Dick Celeste, Faculty Athletics Representative Ralph Bertrand, and Director of Athletics Ken Ralph announced that three varsity sports — football, water polo, and softball — would be discontinued. What We Are Committed to Sustaining

Statements from Board of Trustees Plenary Session, Feb. 21, 2009 Lots of people are working very hard to figure out ways to get the college solvent and to keep it that way. It helps me to reflect on what exactly it is that we’re committed to sustaining. It is the season of personnel reviews. On the faculty side, that means the third-year review, tenure, and promotion to full professor. In addition to CV, syllabi, and publications, candidates’ files include letters from departmental colleagues, from CC staff and faculty outside the department, evaluations of teaching from students and alums, and assessments of the faculty member’s scholarly work from experts in the…

Commencement – May 18th, 2009

On May 18, 446 undergraduates and nine master of arts in teaching students received their degrees in Colorado College’s 128th commencement ceremony. Michael Bennet, the new U.S. senator from Colorado, addressed the CC graduating class of 2009. Bennet began his public service career as an aide to Gov. Richard Celeste of Ohio, who is now CC’s president.

Athletics Briefs

Auguste, Blaustein named top senior athletes Seniors Melanie Auguste ’09 and Billy Blaustein ’09 were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as CC’s top female and male student-athletes among the 2009 graduating class. Men’s Hockey Defenseman Jake Gannon, who served as captain of the hockey team as a senior during the 2008-09 season, was named a recipient of the WCHA’s annual $10,000 Postgraduate Scholarship. Gannon hopes to use the award to pursue a master’s degree in business at Northwestern University. Former CC great Doug Palazzari ’74 is among five individual inductees who will enter the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame in November as members…
