CC Job Opening: Visiting Assistant Professor – Literacy Development

The Education Department at Colorado College, a selective private liberal arts institution, invites applications for a full-time visitor at the Assistant Professor level in Literacy and Early Childhood/Elementary Education (P-5) beginning fall 2014. We seek a colleague with expertise in literacy, most specific to the elementary years, and P-12 school experience (as a classroom teacher, literacy coach, or literacy resource teacher). The position requires teaching six courses an academic year across our undergraduate Education major and the Teacher Preparation Program (Masters of Art in Teaching).  Specific courses include literacy courses (ED470, ED472, ED476), Introductory Education (ED211, ED250), and Education Research Design (ED260).

Minimum Requirements: an earned doctorate (ADB candidates considered if completion date is before August 15, 2014) in an appropriate discipline (e.g., Developmental Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Reading Education or related field), successful teaching in higher education and in public schools, as well as the ability to differentiate courses for teacher licensure candidates and students interested in social issues in education.  We are especially interested in applicants with experiences teaching or working in urban areas and diverse school settings.

Colorado College operates under a unique academic model called the Block Plan. Students take one course at a time for 18 days with a 4 day break between courses. There are 8 blocks in an academic year. Faculty are required to teach 6 of the 8 blocks with the remaining two designated as non-teaching blocks.

The department plans to begin phone interviews with select candidates in February and invite top candidates for on-campus interviews in March.  The position will remain open until filled.
