Faculty Advisee Assignment Announcement

Good Morning,

I hope you are well. I write regarding general advising assignments for Fall.

I am pleased to report that I have finalized incoming student advisee assignments and uploaded them to Banner.

Based on the current advising numbers across the college, and with the goal of establishing equitable distribution of general advisees over the next two years, I established the following distribution:

Faculty with 0-7 returning advisees will receive 6 new general advisees

Faculty with 8-9 returning advisees will receive 5 new general advisees

Faculty with 10-12 returning advisees will receive 4 new general advisees

Faculty with 13-15 returning advisees will receive 3 new general advisees

Faculty with 16 returning advisees will receive 2 new general advisees

Faculty with more than 18 returning advisees will not receive any new general advisees, unless they have volunteered to advise a special group (eg. An athletic team)

Please note that Dean Chan clarified the following:

Faculty due to take sabbatical in Spring 2024 will receive new general advisees this Fall. While the faculty members are on sabbatical, their general advisees will receive support from their Hub advisors

Department chair and co-chair status do not preclude general advising

Phased retirement does not preclude general advising

If you have been assigned new, incoming student advisees there is nothing you need to do at this time. Incoming students have already pre-registered for Fall classes (blocks 1-4) and have been assigned an initial schedule, which includes their CC100 & CC120.

Once block 1 begins, your new, general advisees will have your information, and they may contact you. You are, of course, welcome to begin working with them immediately, but this is up to your interest and availability. We do ask, however, for you to contact your new, general advisees no later than the end of block 2, since preregistration will begin in block 3.

If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to answer any questions that you have.

Thank you,
