Commencement is a Month Away!

Commencement celebrations are only a month away!

The countdown is ON. You are in your final weeks at CC! Commencement is set for Sunday, May 19, at 8:30 a.m., in Ed Robson Arena and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! 
As you head into the final block of the academic year, and the flurry of year-end activities that come with it, we’re sharing some need-to-know info to get ready for the big day. Please take note of the dates below and keep a close eye on your inbox and the Commencement 2024 webpage for further details and updates.  

Apply to Graduate Deadline is TOMORROW – Friday, April 19 


Graduating seniors must submit their application to graduate by Friday, April 19 to walk in the ceremony this spring. If eligible, you will find the link to the application on your student menu in Banner SSB. It only takes a few minutes to opt in to the ceremony, provide height information for a gown, and confirm other important details. Please also record your name in NameCoach to ensure proper pronunciation at the ceremony. 
IMPORTANT: You will not be able to claim guest tickets for Commencement or Baccalaureate events until you complete the registration process.   

Announcing This Year’s Honorary Degree Recipient  

CC is pleased to share that we will be presenting Jim Rosenthal ’70 with an Honorary Degree during Commencement. Honorary Degrees are awarded to individuals who have rendered distinguished service to society or made extraordinary achievements in their own profession. Learn more about Rosenthal and why he’s being honored.

Honors Convocation  

Tuesday, May 7, 11 a.m., Shove Memorial Chapel  
This is CC’s opportunity to honor outstanding students and faculty. The annual program includes departmental awards, all-college awards, and awards from the CC Student Government Association.
Sesquicentennial Ice Cream Social, immediately following Honors Convocation (approx. 12:15 p.m.) on Tava Quad. NOTE: If inclement weather is expected, this event will be moved to Armstrong Great Hall.
Rastall hours will be extended to 2:30 p.m. on Tues. May 7 to accommodate students and employees attending the all-campus events set for this day. 

Baccalaureate 

Saturday, May 18, 3 p.m., Shove Memorial Chapel
Baccalaureate Speaker – Rebecca Garcia, CC Professor of Mathematics, has been selected as this year’s Baccalaureate speaker. Each year, graduating seniors nominate a faculty member to deliver the Baccalaureate address. Professor Garcia’s nomination offered praise for her inclusive philosophy, honor of unique talents, and commitment to advocating for students. 

Departmental Receptions  

Click here for dates, times, and locations of all academic department-specific receptions, most of which take place after Baccalaureate on May 18. Invitations are sent directly from each department.  

Post-Commencement President’s Reception 

Sunday, May 19
Immediately following the Commencement ceremony, President L. Song Richardson will host a reception for all to enjoy on Tava Quad until approx. 12:30 p.m.

We want to honor the outstanding achievements of our senior students! To be featured on CC’s social media accounts leading up to Commencement, just complete this quick survey, which asks you to share about your CC experience, favorite memories, and post-graduation plans. 


Commencement Photos
 

GradImages will be on campus during Commencement weekend. Register in advance at gradimages.com/registration in order to view and purchase photos more quickly after graduation. 

  • Friday, May 17: Chapman Room at Ed Robson Arena, 1-4 p.m. (posed individual and family photos) 
  • Sunday, May 19: Commencement ceremony (graduates crossing the stage and posed with diplomas).  

You will be able to claim one free 5×7 photo from GradImages, courtesy of President Richardson. 

Ticket Information  

Seniors who have applied to graduate will receive an email at the beginning of May with instructions for how to claim tickets for the Commencement and Baccalaureate ceremonies through Ticketmaster. Graduates must claim their free guest tickets by Wednesday, May 15.  

  • Baccalaureate, May 18: Shove Memorial Chapel tickets issued on first-come, first-served basis (up to two guests per student) 
  • Commencement, May 19: Five seated and two standing-room-only tickets per student 

Please note: All desired tickets must be claimed at one time and transferred directly to guests. There will not be a waitlist for students and families who wish to claim more than the allotted number of guest tickets. Should you need additional tickets, fellow graduates are permitted to transfer any unused tickets to other individuals. Please request from fellow graduates directly and coordinate transfer of tickets via Ticketmaster.     

Livestream Option: For family, friends, and members of the campus community who are not attending in person, a livestream will be available online for Commencement, Honors Convocation, and Baccalaureate events.   

Important Parking, Accessibility, and Venue Details 


Parking – Commencement attendees may park anywhere on campus (no fees or permits apply), except the third floor of the Ed Robson Arena parking garage on East Dale Street. The third level of the Ed Robson Arena parking garage is reserved for guests with limited mobility who require parking close to the venue. Accessible parking is available on all levels of the Ed Robson Arena parking garage and in other parking lots on campus as well. 

Accessibility – CC welcomes individuals with disabilities. Please see the Commencement webpage for information on accessible parking and accommodations available within Ed Robson Arena. 

CLEAR BAG POLICY – Ed Robson Arena has a clear bag policy, which will be enforced during Commencement weekend. Only clear bags and small clutch-sized purses will be allowed at entry. For more details on this policy, click here. Clear bags can be purchased at the Tiger Store just south of the main arena entrance.
