I am thrilled to announce a collaborative project between ITS and the Crown Center for Teaching to develop a comprehensive Generative AI strategy for CC. This technology has significant transformative potential, but our focus is on the human, not the tool.
This initiative is led by Associate Professor Ryan Bañagale ’00, Director of the Crown Center – who has been instrumental in driving AI discussions on campus and orchestrating CC’s participation in the AAC&U Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum – and Chad Schonewill, Director of ITS Frontline Solutions and Support. Together, they will guide this collaborative effort to ensure development of a comprehensive strategy that aligns with the mission and values of CC.
Ryan and Chad have already constituted representative groups of students, faculty, and staff, which have been engaging the community this semester with pop-up style Generative AI events and gathering needs, thoughts, and opinions from all of you to help inform the strategy that will be developed this summer. I encourage you to participate in the Crown Center’s Educational Development Day on AI @ CC. Open to all faculty and staff, it will be yet another opportunity to further engage and contribute to our collective conversation.
As the VP/CIO for Information Technology, I am particularly excited to sponsor this initiative. This strategy will serve as a roadmap for the responsible and ethical adoption of AI into a liberal arts education. By continuing to take a holistic and critical approach to the implications, opportunities, and challenges of AI, we aim for CC to be a thought-leader in the digital landscape of higher education.
This collaborative effort is a testament to our commitment to innovation and our dedication to providing our students and faculty with the best possible resources and experiences. Together, we will responsibly explore AI and set a course for how it will fit into our future as an institution.
We welcome input from all members of our community. To share an idea, interest in attending a conversation, or something we might not be thinking of yet, contact us at genai@coloradocollege.edu“> genai@coloradocollege.edu.
Sincerely,
