In follow-up to my June 25 email, I am writing to share an update on the Dean of the Faculty role. Following an internal search, I am pleased to share that Associate Professor Sandi Wong has agreed to serve as Interim Dean of the Faculty for the coming year. Many of you know Sandi well, and her willingness to step back into this role reflects the spirit of service that makes Colorado College what it is.
Sandi previously served as Dean of the Faculty from 2012 to 2019, during which she chaired the Campus Budget Committee, sat on the President’s Cabinet, and led our last reaccreditation review. Since returning to the faculty, she has chaired Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies and contributed to teaching and service in the Department of Sociology, roles that have kept her closely attuned to faculty perspectives. Her current research project, built on interviews with more than 30 CC faculty across divisions, not only highlights what fascinates and inspires teacher-scholars, but also conveys concerns about morale, decision-making, and authority. This collective insight will undoubtedly shape her approach to shared governance.
That governance work begins now, in a year that requires informed leadership from the outset. Budget reductions will need to be implemented with care and close attention to their impact on academic programs. Concurrently, the formation of operational groups in response to the institutional review will depend on a Dean’s Office able to move judiciously with the benefit of knowledge and experience. Sandi is positioned to lead on both fronts immediately. That momentum matters enormously right now, so please join me in welcoming her back.
