Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day at CC
|
The CC community is invited to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, Oct. 12, with events throughout the day.
The day begins with a sunrise blessing on Tava Mountain with Elder Debbie and members of local Indigenous nations. CC vans will depart campus at 5 a.m. for the 7 a.m. ceremony and are expected to return around 9 a.m. Space is limited to 18 participants, with priority given to Native American Student Union (NASU) students and CC Outdoor Education ambassadors. All students and community members are encouraged to sign up. Contact Juan Miguel Arias at jmarias@coloradocollege.edu to reserve a van spot or ask questions.
Later that day, gather at Sacred Grounds in Shove Memorial Chapel from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for a community dinner featuring foods made with traditional and contemporary ingredients, including NDN tacos, Three Sisters salad, Čheyáka tea, and wojapi. A smudge and blessing ceremony will follow from 6:30-7 p.m. outside Sacred Grounds.
