Antiracist Community of Action (ACA)

The Antiracist Community of Action (ACA) is a collaborative, judgment-free environment where interested parties can come together with a common purpose to develop awareness, gain knowledge, and build confidence through guided practice and discovery. The ACA operates with a shared and inclusive facilitation structure, so no one person is considered the “leader.” The non-hierarchical structure increases psychological safety, welcomes diverse ADEI topics of interest, and allows for constructive feedback and perspective that helps to build capacity while offering pragmatic application of ADEI principles and strategies.  To sign up for the next ACA, click the link below.

TRY USING AN ADEI TIP OF THE MONTH…

Be intentional about Land Acknowledgements. You may have found yourselves asking what the purpose of a land acknowledgment is. The answer is respect and honor for Indigenous and Native populations who are the rightful descendants of the land that we occupy. A genuine land acknowledgment recognizes that settler colonization resulted in land theft, cultural assimilation through boarding schools, disease, slavery, relocation, broken promises, genocide, and multigenerational trauma. Just reading statements of solidarity is not enough; we must be intentional in how we engage and support Indigenous and Native communities. The ADEI team will prioritize collaborating with Indigenous and Native communities to craft an acknowledgment that genuinely expresses our sincere commitment. If you want to contribute to this initiative, don’t hesitate to contact the ADEI team.

ADEI in Action!

A huge shout out to the Advancement Events Team and Facilities! This past weekend, they diligently worked hard to accommodate events held by various community partners, including the Educating Children of Color Summit, Martin Luther King All Peoples Breakfast, and CC’s Spring Conference. Thank you for all you do behind the scenes to make all-inclusive events like this successful!

Thank You for a Successful Spring Conference

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Thank you for starting the semester together at Spring Conference.

Nearly 200 of you gathered in Reid Arena to spend time with colleagues, share thoughtful ideas and discussions, and engage in big-picture planning for a busy 2024. I appreciate the energy and commitment you brought to our Project 2024 and leadership activities.

During Spring Conference, I was pleased to announce the winners of the annual President’s Leadership Awards:

  • Victor Nelson-Cisneros Diversity and Inclusion Award: Rosalie Rodriguez, Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity and Belonging
  • Glenn Brooks Award for Innovation and Courage: Derrell Stinson, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Community Standards and Student Support
  • Jane Cauvel Collaboration and Community-Building Award: Mandy Sulfrian, Lead Academic Administrative Assistant for Geology
  • Brian Young Community Service Award: George Eckhardt, Campus Planner, In Memoriam

Congratulations to our award winners for your leadership, passion, and the impact you have made at CC. Kudos to all who were nominated, and many thanks to those who submitted and reviewed nominations.

At Spring Conference, I revisited our pillars, lenses, mission, and vision, as well as the CC motto: “Scientia et Disciplina,” which, for many years, the college has translated as, “Learning Through Hard Work.” Moving forward, you can find all of this at coloradocollege.edu/whatwebelieve. Thank you for using this framework to guide your individual and team goal-setting and strategic planning.

Finally, if you could not attend Spring Conference or did not have your phone available to scan the Project 2024 QR code, we would still like your thoughts on the Big Challenge questions. Click here to access the two-question survey. The survey will remain open through Friday, January 19.

I appreciate all that you do for CC, and I’m grateful to work with such engaged faculty and staff.

Sincerely,

L. Song Richardson

President
