Upcoming Excel at CC Opportunities

Dear Staff and Faculty,

Do you organize and plan events around campus? Are you interested in the work being done in CC’s Office of Civil Rights and Title IX? Do you want to use more inclusive language when talking about individuals with disabilities?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the Office of Human Resources has a 2022-23 Excel at CC session or program for you.

Block 1

We have introduced two new programs during Block 1: Civil Rights and Title IX, and Campus Events. Block 1 features the first session for each of these programs.

  • Central Plant Tour: Sept. 15
    • Justin Porter, central plant supervisor, leads participants on a tour of the Colorado College Central Plant, where you will see what it takes to heat and cool the campus.
  • Introduction to the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX: Sept. 20
    • Get to know this new office on campus.
  • Event Planning 101: Sept. 21
    • Participants will receive an overview of how to plan accessible and safe events that include the correct audio-visual and facilities setup during this introductory session of the campus events program.

Block 2

Continue learning about campus events and discover people-first language, trauma-informed care techniques, and information security strategies, or dive into the topic of project management during Block 2.

  • How to Organize Campus Events with AV: Oct. 4
    • Don Herbst, events user support specialist, facilitates this session which expands on the topics discussed in event planning 101 and counts towards your Campus Events certification.
  • Disability! Let’s Talk About It!: Oct. 5
    • Participants will learn how to speak about disabilities in people-first language, which puts the person before the disability and describes what a person has rather than what a person is.
  • Your Role in Responding to Lived Experiences of Trauma: Oct. 6
    • Attend all three sessions in the Compassionate Community program, facilitated by Senior Director of Student Health and Wellbeing Heather Horton, and you will receive a certificate of completion. In this session, learn about Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) techniques.
  • Planning Accessible Events: Oct. 11
    • Facilitated by Jan Edwards, director of accessibility resources, this session is designed to challenge how you think about campus events so they can be accessible and inclusive for the entire audience. Attending this session counts towards your Campus Events certification.
  • Project Management: Oct. 12
    • Lyrae Williams, associate vice president for planning and effectiveness, leads an interactive project management session that will give participants tools to be successful as they take on new projects. If you were recently promoted or have started a new role, this session would be a great way to develop stronger skills.
  • ITS: Catch Me if You Can!: Oct. 20
    • Chad Schonewill, assistant director of the Solutions Center, will talk to participants about information security, and how to protect yourself and your data online through discussions and activities.
