Wye Oak is based out of Baltimore and is comprised of Jen Wasner and Andy Stack.  Wasner sings and plays guitar, and Stack drums and plays bass simultaneously (?!) using his left hand to play the bass line and his right hand and feet to drum.  This video features the art of Baltimore artists Katherine Fahey (cutouts) and Michael O'Leary (lighting and cinematography).  Civilian was released in March 2011 on Merge Records.

04 Jump, Jive, An' Wail If you don't know Louis Prima then you're missing out. Born in New Orleans "The King of Swing" made hits for almost 40 years. SONG OF THE DAY: Michael Kiwanuka – “I’m Getting Ready”

This guy has a great sound that is way beyond his years (24). Hailing from Britain, he has supported Adele on her tour and won some competitions, including BBC's Sound of 2012 pole for January, but I think he more than has the potential to be a big star. Not too big of course, he's too good for that. Anyway, enjoy the silky soulful sound and get his EP, I'm Getting Ready from Communion Records. SONG OF THE DAY: Frank Ocean — “Voodoo”

Frankie O' (don't worry, were friends so I can use nicknames) just released the following track on his tumblr, by which I mean to say his website. It's got a classic "love you baby" r&b background with slightly odd but actually pretty poetic lyrics. It's short but I sure hope there is more of this on whatever upcoming project it's from. Frank-Ocean-Voodoo Enjoy! Teo is a sophomore at CC. He has a radio show every Tuesday 7-9pm, it's got all sorts of stuff. Check it out.

SONG OF THE DAY: Young Jeezy ft. Jay-Z and Andre 3000 – “I Do”

"I can't see anything here with these sunglasses" Young Jeezy's upcoming album has been upcoming for a very long time but now it apparently has a release date 12/20, we'll see. What is known for sure is that the Snowman is calling in some big favors for "Thug Motivation 103". He released "Ballin" with Lil Wayne, "F.A.M.E." featuring T.I. and combined with Jay-Z and Andre 3000 that makes for a fine list. "I Do" lets everyone know that rap stars aren't afraid to put a ring on it, in fact they're pretty excited about. Perfect party jam. I Do feat. Jay-Z & Andre 3000 Teo is a sophomore at CC. He has a radio show every Tuesday 7-9pm, he plays all sorts of music. Check it out.

FEATURED SHOW: Theme Party with A-Strauss — Saturdays 5-7pm

Major? Studio art Grade? Senior Name of show? Theme Party How long have you been DJing on the SOCC?  Since November 13, 2010. It's my one-year anniversary! Does your show have a concept, genre, or theme guiding it? I choose a different theme each session. For instance, this week the theme was crime. DJs typically devote their shows to specific musical genres, but I ran with the theme idea because it provides cohesiveness to a session while allowing me to pull from whatever genres offer songs relevant to the theme. I love lining up songs from disparate genres in sets that allow you to hear their similarities. The sets can also be like the game Telephone or Six Degrees to Kevin Bacon. Like last week, I started a set with Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys, and ended it with The Velvet Undergr...

SONG OF THE DAY: Parov Stelar – “The Mojo Radio Gang”

Jazz and swing music were a pretty big step forward in music culture. One minute people are all calm and collected, the next they're dancing like lunatics. What happens when you add a little modern day mayhem? Well the dancing continues. Enjoy. Teo is a sophomore at CC. He has a radio show every Tuesday 7-9pm, he plays all sorts of music. Check it out.
