Over the past several days, some of you have seen news coverage about a request from United States Secretary of Education Linda McMahon inviting colleges and universities to publicly state their commitments to higher education and the role our institutions play in American society. I encourage you to read the letter.

The questions themselves are not new. They range from wondering about our approach to freedom of expression, to asking about how we will ensure the affordability of higher education for Americans, to our contributions to society. Many of these questions are ones we consider every day as we work together to provide an elevated liberal arts experience.

As we reflect on this federal request, I invite members of our campus community to share their perspectives. If you have opinions, thoughts, or examples of how to best articulate the value and impact of Colorado College, please share them through the form below.

Your insights will inform conversations with and among the Board of Trustees, support our progress toward Strategic Plan goals, and shape future campus dialogues, as we safeguard the institutional judgment that has always guided this College’s decisions.

Over the coming months, we will carefully review what we hear from our community. By late in the fall semester, we will share our decision about whether we will issue a public response and outline any next steps.
