Face shields are currently the best defense against COVID-19. That’s why the work being done by the PPE project is critical right now. Every mask Colorado College produces is donated directly to healthcare workers, so the project is running on donations and grants. Each mask costs less than $4 to produce, and for the price of a cheap bottle of wine you can donate two reusable masks to healthcare workers. Please consider donating today!
What are we doing, and why is it important?
For many of us at Colorado College (students, faculty, and staff alike) we have felt the struggles of our community during this pandemic. It is unsurprising that after two weeks of stay-at-home orders, two of our faculty members began to piece together how Colorado College can make a difference and help people.
Professor Racheal Paupeck came to Colorado College the fall semester of 2019 and comes with a background in architecture and design. Professor Andrea Bruder has been at Colorado College for the past eleven years and currently serves as the chair of the mathematics and computer science department. Both professors independently were drawn to the cause of helping the community, and were able to find each other and begin the PPE (personal protective equipment) project at CC.
Since the end of March, the PPE project at CC has already produced and shipped over 2,500 masks. The majority of those masks have been sent to the Navajo Nation where they have been distributed to healthcare workers. Other masks have been sent to Colorado Springs first responders and the dental society.
