Investment Research

Looking for an outstanding opportunity to acquire hands-on experience with fundamental analysis and the investment research process? Fidelity’s investment research internships give interns the chance to acquire the core research skills needed to begin a successful and exciting career in investment management.
Investment Research Interns support investment decisions by building financial models, completing financial analysis, and conducting proprietary research. These internships give maximum exposure into the holistic research process through collaboration with research analysts, portfolio managers, traders, quantitative research analysis, and investment support associates.

Education and Experience

  • Class of 2025 Bachelor’s degree candidates
  • Interest in growing knowledge of fundamental research and investment management
  • Shown initiative in studies and extracurricular activities related to financial markets

Training

  • Emphasis on hands-on training from Research Analysts directly related to intern projects

Mentorship

Equity Sector Specialist Intern (Boston, MA):

Fidelity’s Equity Division is responsible for handling more than 130 diversified mutual funds and more than 78 industry specific funds. Assets under management total approximately $788 billion.

Responsibilities

The Associate Sector Specialist Intern will report to the Director of Sector Research. They will work closely with the Director, as well as with Sector Specialists and Analysts across a variety of sectors, playing a vital role in contributing to the investment performance of the firm.
The Associate Sector Specialist Intern will work closely with the Sector Specialists to provide general research support to the equity research Analysts and Associates on the investment teams. Responsibilities include gathering important industry data, graphing industry trends, streamlining data collection and processing, and helping with various projects to support stock-specific and industry presentations. The Associate Sector Specialist Intern will also work with industry sources, Wall Street contacts, and internal groups like technology data and systems support, market data, and research services as necessary in order to gain important insights, knowledge, and tools to provide the highest level of support to the research process.

Equity Trading Intern (Boston, MA):

Responsibilities

We are seeking candidates to join the Equity Trading team based in Boston. Interns will be working closely with each of our key trading units, shadowing team members and assisting with various projects throughout the summer. They will also be exposed to groups working closely with trading, including operations, compliance, and technology. Throughout the program, there will be opportunities to network with other groups within asset management, as well as visit with sell-side counterparts in Boston to gain exposure of the industry. Key goals for the program would include having a solid understanding of the trading business generally, a network of industry contacts, and familiarity with basic terminology and market concepts. 

Real Estate Debt Securities Intern (Boston, MA):

Fidelity’s Real Estate Debt Securities Group manages over $9B for institutional and retail investors. The team invests in a wide variety of securities and loans including commercial mortgage-backed securities, bonds issued by real estate companies, preferred stocks of REITs, syndicated bank loans, REIT equities, and commercial real estate whole loans.

Responsibilities

The summer intern will update the commercial mortgage loan default database, assist research analysts in their analysis of real estate securities, and complete a case study on a commercial real estate topic.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Gathering loan default data from CMBS trustee statements
  • Updating and enhancing a database in MS Access that sorts and analyzes commercial mortgage loan defaults
  • Participating in the credit analysis of commercial mortgage-backed securities
  • Researching and creating a presentation on a commercial real estate topic
  • Presenting a case study to the real estate debt team
