Screening and discussion: “The Defiant Ones” Episode One
Thursday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. Cornerstone Screening Room
Doug Pray ’83 is best known as a director of feature documentary films about American subcultures and maverick individuals. From graffiti writers to copywriters, truck drivers to surfers, DJs and garage rockers to large-scale earth artist Michael Heizer, his subjects are fiercely independent and often misunderstood. “The Defiant Ones” (2017) is an HBO documentary series that tells the stories of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre’s improbable musical partnership – and their surprising roles in contemporary culture. Pray wrote and edited the series alongside fellow CC alum Lasse Jarvi; Pray also served as executive producer. He received a BA in sociology and an honorary doctorate from Colorado College and an MFA from the UCLA School of Film and Television.
The Visiting Series in Film and Culture is generously co-sponsored by the Cultural Attractions Fund. Unless otherwise specified, all events are free and open to the public.
